List the songs you know that you think are the saddest -- I don't mean "bad;" I mean, songs that make you cry or at least well up, or did at one point in time.

I'll start with a few:

Tears in Heaven, by Eric Clapton
Same Old Lang Syne, by Dan Fogelberg
Diary, by Bread
Someday Never Comes, by Creedence Clearwater Revival

I challenge anyone here to listen to Public Service Broadcasting's "Fire in the Cockpit" and not tear up a little.

1+ on Diary
It was a favorite to me and my "crush" at the time.
The most disturbing song to hit the airwaves was "Timothy."
Ew, I just read the lyrics.

You know, Billy Joel's Piano Man is pretty sad, when you stop and think about it.

Very much. Nobody's having fun at that bar and they want to be anywhere else. They're just existing and drinking with each other to keep the loneliness at bay.

Fast Car by Tracy Chapman is a heart breaker.

I remembering hating the song Wildfire by Michael Martin Murphy when I was a kid. Probably wouldn't bother me so much now.

Round Here by Counting Crows.

On Chicago XI, there is a song called Little One. Though it was written by the drummer, lead guitarist Terry Kath sang it. Terry, who had a wife and daughter of his own, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head just months after this song came out.

Oh, Little one, it's so nice to have you near me
To feel once again the love you bring here.
Oh, my little one, I am sorry for the pain you've felt.
Say the word and daddy will make it disappear.

Oh, little one,
Bring your love here.
Oh, Little one
I need you near.
Oh, Little one,
Don't live in fear of the future
'Cause I will always be there.

Oh, little one,
Music is my life, I hope you understand.
Traveling on the road with me you can see the way we live.
Oh, little one,
I will always cherish these days with you.
As time goes by I hope you see the love I tried to give.

Oh, little one,
Let your love flow.
Precious one,
Like a flower you'll grow.
My little one,
Someday you'll have your own little one,
And you will always be there.

My little one...
My little one...
My little one...
I love you so,just thought I'd let you know...

It has been 10 years sense my little brother went home to be with my mom and dad
and every time I hear this song I still shed a tear for him

RIP Ronnie !

"Let Them In" was made from a poem written by a nurse and found in a hospital during World War II.

Not sad, more of a tribute:

Mark Isham / On the Threshold of Liberty

Do I have some sad songs? Are you kidding me?
I have LOTS of sad songs....heck I could list them for days.
But I'll try to limit them to "just a few" that pop into my head.

I have to start with a few from Richard Thompson. Some of the other artists I'll post also deserve a few at least, but I'll only post one from each (okay, maybe two).

Here are a few to make you cry:

ok, a couple more...

That oughta keep you all in tears for a while, let me know when you are feeling happy again and I'll post some more.

Another song from this album was already posted, but I thought I would share this one. It is a sad and beautiful piece that is one of the most accurate descriptions I have heard about people being in the ICU during their final moments on Earth.
