I had my eye on a Madcow Cricket for a while. I finally went to pull the trigger on one the other day, but it recently disappeared from the Madcow website. Chris Short had one in stock and I snagged it, but now I see hardly anyone has one. Now I'm glad I got one.

Seems like a fun squat rocket on 38mm motors. I'm kind of concerned about the durability of the fins but I want to give it a whirl.

So does anyone know for sure if this kit is discontinued? That might play a role in how reckless I get with it...

based on a set of fins I had on my Seawolf that were nicely bowed, I would suspect the length of the fins weren't straight after a few months / years in a bag..

or, it wasn't a top seller, and he's discontinued it to make room for other new offerings!

So, marketing or quality. pick one.. :D

They had a huge sale a few years ago for back Friday. I nabbed one in the mid 50s, I suspect it was not a huge seller, also.

I really like mine, though with the large fins it takes up a bunch of space in the car. You can put it up on a G64 and keep it under 1k feet and it'll fly on a nice range of 38mm motors as well. The Loki H100 Spitfire is my favourite motor for it.

When I built it, I cut down the base of the nose cone to give myself more room for the chute. Naturally I had a CATO on the 2nd flight, for the repair I had to cut the top of the BT, so I extended the BT a couple of inches when I rebuilt it.

If it's discontinued, this would be a pretty easy clone. Madcow sells the nosecone & the 4" body tube. The fins would be easy to cut out of some 10mm Baltic Birch with a jigsaw.

cheers - mark

Along the same lines, it looks like Madcow has also discontinued their 4" PAC-3. It had been listed as "Out of stock" for quite some time. I'm glad I got mine from a fellow TRF member last year.

One of my favorites. Great kit for low/slow flights. Fins are sturdy. It does take up a lot of space in car. Perfect for small fields with G64 (550-600’). AT H128 or H180 are my go to motors on HPR field.

If you try to order it, it says they are out of stock.
We're talking about the 4" Cricket, right? I was able to place it in the shopping cart and go all the way to the final step (place order) before removing it. I've ordered from them hundreds of times, if an item is out of stock you cannot place it in their shopping cart and it shows out of stock on the description page.

I've been flying my Cricket for 3 years now and it's held up very well. I like the H112J in it. It's a cool rocket for quick prep and flight. It is a bugger to transport and store.

I did the same until some told me you can't pay for it. I did the whole thing and it stopped right before CC and Paypal and told me the none were available.

Strange. Oh well, if someone wants to get one they can try it and see if it works for them. Cheers.

I received the kit today and yeah the fins are a little bowed. I'm not really surprised. Getting them acceptably straight shouldn't be a problem with some water and weight. If this was a persistent issue over the years, however, I could it being a reason to discontinue the kit.

The fins are 1/4" so they should be pretty sturdy. If this thing happens to come down on a gravel or asphalt driveway on our club field, however, I would expect it to chip one of the pointy ends. Might go with a slightly larger-than-average chute.

I put about a 1/4" radius on the tip to give it some durability, and so far no chips.

Muddy, don't think anybody here will know "for sure" if this has been discontinued. Probably your best bet would be to email Madcow customer service. But if you want another backup I found one more vendor showing in stock:
https://www.discountrocketry.com/rocketry-cricket-p-1870.html
Phone them first to verify and ask about shipping charges.
Plus my other post. Cheers.
