My Estes Der Red Max just isn’t launching, the red light on the controller turns on when the key is pressed, and turns off when I press the launch button (as it should). Anyone have any idea why it might not be working?

Assuming you're using an Estes E Launcher or similar....

Are your starters burning through, i.e. do they fail continuity after the first go?

Are you press-and-holding, not just stabbing the launch button? I always direct people using the Estes controller to hold the key and button until the bird leaves the top of the rod.

Finally, what batteries are you using and how often have they been used? If you're using randomly mismatched store-brand harvested from TV remotes you'll have a lot more variance than with Fresh Energizer Ultimate ( LiFeS2 ) AA.

Yeah, I’m holding the launch button down for more than 10 secs, the batteries are all tested and have a good charge. I had this same issue a few weeks ago when I launched a different rocket, and it took multiple attempts and changing out motors and starters for it to finally launch.

If the igniter is burned thru, then it’s an issue with how it was placed in the motor.

If it isn’t burned thru, then it’s wiring/setup. Is it possible the clips are touching each other or both touching the blast plate?

What type / kind of rechargeables are you using? Particularly if AA, NiCd or NiMH often won't do the job at ~1.3ish V nominal.

I'd bet if you switch to LiFeS2 ( nonrechargeable unfortunately ) or 14500 LiPo ( AA-shaped, 3.7v nominal, probably available at a local vape shop ) you'll notice a remarkable difference.

Tried it again with the same batteries and It took off quick and flew perfect
