The discussion comparing costs needs to factor in the cost of the camper (or camper rental) and a vehicle to tow it. Paying $400 a year may be more cost effective than buying or renting a camper. Sleeping in a tent is another discussion altogether.

True Dwayne. Just for rockets it's not worth it but for me and my family we use it 3 seasons a year. My rv is paid for, so cost me nothing per month.

"OH, Sigh....." Will I make it? Hmmmm. It is such a long drive.... LOL.

For me,,
It's the longest drive in rocketry,,
and the most worthwhile...

Thanks for all the offers, everyone. I had a great time at LDRS 37, which was relatively local. I’d love to check out 38, and it would be great to team up with someone for the drive. As the time gets closer I’ll try reaching out to some of my local club members to see if anyone is driving out.

It'd sure be great to finally meet you Thirsty Eric..
I don't think it's possible for you and I to live much further apart and still be in the continental US,, lol..
This is a great opportunity for the lefties to meet the easties..

It would be great to meet everyone, Teddy! I went to LDRS 37 for all 5 days and only ended up flying 6 rockets, because I spent all my time BSing with people.

Ha,,
Yep, that's what big launches can be..
But super cool, nonetheless..

Me and My brother are doing logistics now. Would you be willing to share the ride with us 2 ? 3 drivers can only make the drive easier. On everyone.

I will be leaving from Utica, just east of Syracuse. Anyone close and interested in driving straight through PM me. I have an SUV and will have a 6x12 Tow behind U-Haul. FYI I don't smoke and am a fan of deodorant:D

I'm sorry Tommy but I do the run with my wife Sandy..
We do great together..
She likes to drive during the day and I like to drive the night..
Sharing a ride isn't a bad idea if you do it in the right vehicle with the right person / people..
You sure won't regret the trip,, you'll have the time of your life..

Can't wait to see you there..

Teddy,
My drive is more like a flight. 46 minutes from Stearman Field (K1K1) to the Rocket Pasture by Cub at 500’AGL. There’s an empty seat in the front if someone wants to “plane pool”!

That sounds fun! I can’t take you up on it, but that’s a great invitation for someone in the area.

HOTEL UPDATE FOR LDRS 38
Folks, even though LDRS 38 is ten months from now, the response has been tremendous! So much so, that the three host hotels have already sold out. If you made reservations already congratulations! If not, all is not lost! There are a ton of hotels less than an hour away from the Rocket Pasture. If you still need to reserve a room, there are three options available to you. I will list them on driving time to the Rocket Pasture. First, other hotels in Wellington (about 20 minutes drive time). There are a handful of other hotels in Wellington, KS. Wellington offers several places to eat, a Walmart, and a hardware store. Wellington is an agricultural based community and most of the large hotels chains have passed it by. Any of the remaining hotels will be older (and cheaper) than the next two options. Second, Kansas Star Casino, located near Mulvane, KS (about 40 minute driving time). The casino is relatively new and the Hampton Inn and Suites attached to it has 300 rooms. I have no idea the cost but there are several restaurants located in the casino and you drive through Wellington to get there. Finally, Wichita (slightly less than an hour's drive). Probably the best bet would be to stay on the west side of Wichita near the airport. There are tons of hotels in all price ranges with an equal amount of restaurants nearby.
Don't let the lack of close in hotels push you into thinking maybe you don't want to come. This will be the seventh time LDRS will be held on the Rocket Pasture and by far this one is shaping up to be the biggest in terms of attendance and newton seconds burned! I will guarantee you if you decide not to come you will end up regretting it!
Put August 29th through September 2nd on your calendar. Type "Rocket Pasture" into Google Maps on your iPad or cell phone and you will get turn by turn directions to the launch site.
If you want any recommendations on hotels PM me.
Bob

Bob,,
I wanna ride in the Cub..
I have a few ( 4 actually ) 5" rockets I need to bring though..
I think we could tie them up under the wings without a problem..
As long as we get them all oriented nice and straight into the airflow drag shouldn't be of any concern..
The only thing I really would be concerned about is if the route goes over any military bases..

You know,,
On second thought,, if you'd do me the favor and take the rockets
I'm pretty sure I could find a ground ride with out much problem..

Thank you always Bob..

Folks, I have some clarification with regard to hotel reservation blocks for LDRS 38 at Argonia in August 2019 ...

We do have room blocks at the Cobblestone Inn at Anthony, KS and the Cobblestone Inn at Harper, KS. Each of these blocks has been completely reserved and as of this moment are not available. A third room block is available at the Baymont/Travelodge in Wellington, KS; as of this moment, this block does, in fact, have rooms available.

If you don’t yet have a room reserved for LDRS 38, you can call the Baymont/Travelodge Inn by Wyndham in Wellington, KS. This hotel’s number is (620) 359-1137.

Choose the prompts to get to the “Front Desk” and tell them you are reserving for the LDRS 38 group set-up in the Travelodge for August 28 –September 2, 2019.

The LDRS 38 Group Rate is $49 and up, depending upon room type. The block is set-up in the former Travelodge hotel; check-in at the Baymont on the south side of the street.

If you experience any trouble, please let me know ASAP and I’ll check it out. Also, Ramona, the property general manager is available to help if you are calling during weekday business hours.

IT'S BEEN TOO LONG!!

I'M MAKING THE FIRST TREK TO ARGONIA SINCE 2011!! WOO HOO! RESERVATIONS MADE TONIGHT!

Now all of you who find me annoying here online can find out how annoying I can be in person. :D

I am going to have 2 extra bunks in my camper. I am thinking maybe I should rent them out. Make a little extra money that I can give to Lehr. LOL I think this is going to be a big one this year!!!!!

Lance,
Carmen said that you and the rest of the Kloudbusters are always welcome to go inside our camper at anytime to cool off, eat or if you need a place to sleep and it wont cost you anything.
