You like fruitcake? This is the thread for you. Place your vote. (this is an effort to clean up the LOL thread)
Personally I loathe fruitcake. It pretty. And it's pretty disgusting.

True story. I was flying home one Christmas and had to take a little dual turbo-prop puddlejumper on the last leg. The flight was over weight, and they were looking for three volunteers to take a later flight to lighten the load. Being that everyone wanted to get somewhere for the holidays, nobody was budging. Finally a gentleman got up and agreed to take a later flight. He retrieved a 'giant' fruitcake from the overhead bin and took it with him. We were then expecting another overture for another two volunteers. Instead, the gate agent came on and said - "OK! We're under weight and good to go!"

Good fruitcake is good. Bad fruitcake is bad.

Definitely. I really enjoy cakes that have a relatively high ratio of nuts to fruit. My wife recently made one that was about 30% pecans and almonds, and 70% fruit, mostly cranberry and orange with some ginger.

Those psychedelic Day-glo all-fruit cakes are pretty gross though. Especially the store-bought stuff.

Its part of my culture, English - Irish, so I grew up with it. Good fruit cake and Christmas pudding is something I look forward to this time of the year. How about liver and onions, Marmite on toast, toad in the hole, or bubble and squeak...love them all!

I like most kinds of fruitcakes, mostly the holiday dessert types, but also a few of the human ones. I like the kind that are soaked in booze, and that applies to both types.

Seriously though, I do enjoy eating fruitcake during the holidays. I’m not a big fan of some of the cheapo candied fruit that is in some of the varieties, but I like the spice cake flavor and good dried fruits and nuts. I like the dense-textured kinds. And I’m serious about the booze. My mom used to make one that she’d keep wrapped in a cheesecloth and occasionally douse with rum or brandy. Yum!

My very first experience with a fruitcake is the one my mom used to like. Yeah, those psychedelic bricks you see in the store. Ever since, I have made no effort to try a second one. Maybe there's something to one that is scratch made and doesn't have nuts in it. I don't like nuts in my sweets and I don't like sugar on my nuts. I may never get to try a decent one if they all have nuts in them.

There is a credible rumour that all existing fruitcakes were made prior to 1579 and have been getting re-gifted since then.

I'll do one of these over just about any desert at T'day or C'mas dinners. "Gimme dat Strawberry" Punch Bowl!

To clarify, I like my grandmother’s homemade fruitcake. At least I did when she used to make it. Now I only have the recipe, and I’m afraid I’ll be disappointed if i try to duplicate it...

I'd be very interested in seeing that recipe. I'd hate to think I went through life thinking fruitcake was a gut bomb rather than knowing it has true potential.

True potential? A doorstop? A wild life feeder? A weapon? A payback gift? A bowling ball? An iron for your Hawaiian shirts? A Frisbee? A discus? A hubcap? A lamp base? An incense holder? Something that goes BUMP in the night? A blast deflector? A rocket stand? The list can go on and on here...

Lest we forget, a weapon. Some stupid kids tossing it off a bridge could actually kill some driver zipping through the underpass.

The only fruitcake I will eat is Claxtons - unlike all the rest, it is moist and full of fruit. Even better if you spread a bit of butter on each slice to add a savory note.

Lets not confuse "Fruit Cake" with the traditional Englinsh "Christmas Pudding" (typically served flaming, from generous amounts of brandy & topped with brandy butter!)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_pudding

And full of coins! My parents used to wrap nickels, dines and quarters in tinfoil and bake them into the Christmas Pud and us kids used to look forward to selecting our own slice and seeing what treasure we got.

Isn't Fruitcake the most re-gifted item in history?
I thought that was socks, or a certain picture frame.

But today it seems to be gift cards..

Fruit cake, to me, was always the thing you bought from an elderly man's club because it was attached to making a donation / fundraiser for the local sick kids or .. and you gifted it because you didn't know what to do with it! (you buy 4, keep one, and gift the other three!)
