Can someone tell me what I need to convert an Estes Big Daddy into a two engine E cluster?

Specifically, what parts do I need for the engine mount??

A second engine tube, and a couple two-holed centering rings.

I think I get how to do it except for the dual centering rings. Looked on the parts section on Hobbylink and didn't see one. Can you point me to another source??

Cut some cardboard rings that fit in the tube. Then tie two 24mm tubes side by side with rubber bands. Trace around them on the rings. Cut on the traces.
Boom you are done. Dual tube centering rings. Cardboard is MORE than strong enough.

My first choice would be the DIY route like Jeff described. I'd use the kit rings, laminate with card stock, draw and cut the new holes. Done.

My second choice would be purchasing part #M2T50300-F from Balsa Machine Services - www.balsamachining.com

The centering rings can be found under the KITS & BLDG. SUPPLIES tab.

A quick and dirty and reasonably accurate way to figure the additional nose weight needed is to weigh the kit motor mount parts and one motor and weigh the cluster motor mount parts and two motors. The difference is the the amount of weight you will add up front.

Hope that helps. Searching this forum for "big daddy cluster" may give you some more ideas.

If you go DIY... don't forget to get the centers of the rings and center of the two tube sub-assembly coaxial. Either that or cant them slightly and go spin stabilized!

I happen to have an unbuilt Big Daddy and a piece of BMST300. I just stepped into the shop to compare the Estes tube to the BMS and I'd guess the BMS 2×T50 to T300 rings will fit the Estes airframe without much modification

The Big Daddy, though, has through-wall fins with tabs that contact the motor tube. It's workable, but it'll take a little fiddling around to get things to fit.

BMS T300 is the same as Estes 3" airframe, couplers are interchangeable as well. The BMS PNC-300K nosecone though is a bit longer than the Estes Big Daddy/Leviathan nosecone.

If you like clustering that is one thing....otherwise what about just plopping a 24mm RMS F-24 in it? Then you can build stock, not have to add nose weight that will limit you AND will actually be cheaper to launch. Plus you can even use a variety of 24mm single use motors along with the variety of reloads.....just a thought. 24mm composits are more power and less weight.

Good point. So a little fabricatin’ needed. Wonder what the op thinks of these suggestions ?

Here's a rocksim file. My Big Daddy 2x24. Shows I put .8oz in the nose. Sorry I have not used Open Rocket. It used to be awful. Worst interface ever. Maybe its better and I should try it again. Of course rocksim is a "SAVE EARLY AND OFTEN" because it will crash...

Ok that was off topic.
