just that..

Does your club do annual or occasional fund raisers? Due to the average club being a few dozen members, how is [extra] cash raised?

if so, what do you guys do?

Our club ranges from 30-40 paid members per year. We charge non members $5 to launch and encourage them to join to avoid fees. We get cash donations now & then & the only time we really asked for donations was a few years ago when we invested in new launch controllers & it seemed that money came rolling in.

We charge an annual membership fee of $10 for NAR members and $20 for non-NAR people.

If you are a NAR section make sure you apply for a $250 section grant every year. I am about to apply for our 2018 grant for a new PA system. Next year we will apply for one for a high power launch pad.

At our public launch days we have a “fly it, take it” Program where nonmembers can buy an 18 mm naked minimum diameter rocket with an A8-3 motor for $20 and that includes membership for as many launches on the day as they would like…

After their first flight they can go back and buy more rocket motors from the on-site local vendor…

We typically sell over 100 of them on our public launch days twice a year…

If they don’t lose the rocket (c6-3s go ~1000 feet on these little babies!), they get to keep it and we often have people coming back at subsequent launches to fly again…

Those that come back, typically join as members… I know it works, that’s how I got into this with my kids!

It appears that I am going to serve as the "Senior" advisor for 2 clubs. I am thinking of having contests as a fundraising contest. I will produce a kit for sale (at cost). The flier buys, builds, and potentially wins in one weekend. I have a kit ready to print. The person flies closest to x altitude wins.

Sounds fun.

Altitude Comp denotes altimeters are needed. What about a “lands closest to a spacex barge/pad” instead? Might help keep the costs down.

We used to have raffles at the monthly meetings. Sometimes a local hobby shop owner would kick in a few goodies. I brought a CD with the operating instructions and experimenter's guide to the Hubble. Several times I brought cardstock or paper models printed in color on good paper.
