As everyone may know the Rocketry Organization of California (ROC) is hosting NSL 2019 with a theme of the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo Moon Landing. It will be held the second weekend in June at Lucerne Dry Lake, California.

We'd love to get some ideas in regards to the Apollo commemoration. Please respond with your ideas for ways we can celebrate.

Maybe a Saturn V mass launch or drag race?

Maybe a "Best Replica or Model" contest of Saturn V's or Apollo era rockets?

We are still very early in planning, so this would be a good time to kick around some ideas.

Woo Hoo, NSL in So Cal!
Yay ROC!

1. Yes to a Saturn V mass launch, play the audio of Walter Cronkite's intro commentary and the mission countdown from the Apollo 11 launch & then push the button.
Extra credit, get someone associated with the 1969 launch / Nasa / JPL to push the button. Invite such types of dignitaries to come out to the launch, or give some short speeches, Q/A sessions, shake hands with the kids, sign our Saturn models, etc. Go for broke - send an invite to Buzz, though he is likely to be very busy next summer.

2. Mark a circle on the playa to represent the lunar surface, with some diameter maybe 20' - 40', with an X to represent the moon landing location, and have different prizes for those who (safely) land within the 'moon' diameter, and to who lands closest to the X (Tranquility Base). This can be done multiple times, maybe a mass launch specifically using the new Estes 1:200 scale model so you can get lots of participation, maybe separate mass launches for different age groups, kids & adults, scout groups, etc . Maybe Estes would sponsor some prizes!

3. Maybe some kind of TARC-like mission assignment related to Apollo, have different age levels, + adult/open.... maybe the flight closest to an altitude of 1,969', etc etc.

4. At night after dinner, show some movies of the 1969 launch, and the lunar landing, and 1st steps on moon.

5. Promote & highlight large Saturn model projects.......

Have a "walk like Neil" race.. all the racers 'bounce' from point A to point B in their best 'moon walk'..

Give out some US flags, and 'mark' where thier Saturn V was retrieved from. At the end of the day, you should have a bunch of 'flags planted'

A scale model contest / show..

try to organize a "chronological order" launch: launch a Gemini, then a little joe, then a sat 1B, then a Sat V, then a ...
