October Skies is only 3 weeks away! Some important details for the launch:

T-Shirts - please sign up for T-Shirts, link near the midle of the TCC home page (https://tccrockets.com/)
As a special surprise, I will remind folks that this is NASA 60 years and Apollo 50 years - Saturn-V - October, hmm, this one should be cool :)

Launch site - it is pristine, just like we left it in May for LDRS ... should be great.

RSO/LCO - we need some folks to sign up and help run the launch, link near the middle of the TCC home page (https://tccrockets.com/)

Night launch - we have Night launch from Sundown to 10pm on Saturday! Other activities TBD.

Vendors
Bay Area Rocketry
AMW/PRO-X
Fruity Chutes
Taco Tren
and more ...

Competitions
We have two competition events planned, as some of you may have already realized, because of new minimum safe distances, mass drag races are getting harder to have and I think everyone is burnt out on them. So this year we have two events - chute out, and altitude(s)

Chute-Out
"Chute Out" - the idea would be to judge parachutes or other recovery systems based on their beauty or visual appeal.
Vendors prizes TBD, contact Eric Renger for details.

Altitude Contests
On Saturday, anyone that hits closet to the following altitudes.
2,500’ MSL
5,000’ MSL
7,500’ MSL
10,000’ MSL
You will receive $100.00 to each altitude selected above a on site vendor credit to the one that gets closet to the altitude. Plus or minus.
Applicants will need to pay a $5.00 donation fee to the club prior to their launch on Saturday for this contest.

Onsite Location
Our site is still pristine from LDRS, you can camp and do as you would normally at LDRS or OS/DA. There will be porta-potties onsite and double-wide with wash basins. The Helm store is down the street for any ice or items you need.

Registration - YOU CAN NOW PAYPAL!
If you'd like to pre-pay, it is $35 for 3-days, if you send $35 to [email protected], otherwise the price onsite is $40 for all 3 days. Note that if you pay online, you'll help the club and simplify your whole check-in and registration process. You can pay up to the day of the launch online, Richard or I will print the final pre-paid registrations on Thursday.

The weather should be great and I think we're all really looking forward to this launch ...

Thank you
-James

Is anyone getting excited for October Skies? I am! Who is going?

Here's some more info about the contests. And note, the club is matching the contest prizes offered by the sponsors, so the amounts have doubled as described below:

Chute-Out
Show off your chutes or other recovery systems! Parachutes or other recovery systems will be judged in flight based on their beauty or visual appeal. Recovery system must function in order to qualify! Contest is on Saturday, and we are aiming for an early 10am contest, hoping for lighter breezes. Rockets will be launched sequentially (not a drag race) to give time to appreciate and judge each one. Fruity Chutes is sponsoring the Chute Out and is offering a $75 Fruity Chutes credit, and the club is matching that with an additional $75, for a total prize of $150.

Altitude Contests

On Saturday, anyone that hits closet to the following altitudes.
2,500’ MSL
5,000’ MSL
7,500’ MSL
10,000’ MSL
You will receive $100.00 to each altitude selected above a on site vender credit to the one that gets closet to the altitude. Plus or minus.
Applicants will need to pay a $5.00 donation fee to the club prior to their launch on Saturday for this contest.
THE CLUB WILL MATCH $100 for each Category - this means the total purse is $800.
Fliers will be required to fly from 9am to 3pm on Saturday, no exceptions.
Judging will be completed by Nightfall.

We'd love to see some more chutes in the Chute Out. And very few have signed up for the altitude contests, so the chances of winning are really good!

I'm planning to do at least one of the altitude contests, but I need to look at my rockets/motors/sims to see which one makes the most sense first. No pretty chutes, so nothing to show off there. :)

I'm going to do the same and see if I have anything to fly in the altitude contest, probably the 2,500 foot. You mentioned you might be able to take some video of the Chute Out, and that would be a great contribution.

Getting closer! I'm packing up tonight an heading out tomorrow.

If anyone is interested in the altitude contests, or even if you are NOT very interested, you might want to sign up at the link above. There are very few people in each altitude category, so the odds are great. Right now, they are just going to have to hand the 7,500' prize to woferry no matter what altitude he hits, because he's the only person signed up for it! Free money!

Altitude contest prizes are $200 each, and Chute Out is $150.

I'm coming up tomorrow...changed my plans from LV to TCC due to forecast winds on Jean dry lake.
