Interesting. For the last 2 decades there have been hundreds of papers written on how and what to grow to sustain life on Mars.
To offer up synthetic soil for further research must mean they are really, really serious about sending out AI to build shelters and green houses and start growing on Mars.
I hope I live long enough to see another landing on a planet where we "Earthlings" are the Extra Terrestrial.
It would be nice to have a Mars rock on my desk for a paper weight!
