I'd love to go but its like 5 hours for me and I don't really want to do that. Going to GRITS in November (whether my boss says i can or not lol) to get my L2

I'm a slacker, so I won't drive the 38 hours to get there. :p The ad was awesome, though.

Easy drive for me, so it's a "can't miss" event. Waivers and recovery area like this are very rare in the Eastern half of the country. I think it's worth the drive from almost anywhere in this half of the country. Going to attempt my L2 at the launch. Fingers crossed.

Good luck, I’ll see you out there, pre registered and hotel booked all I need to do is load up the van and hit I-10

Kicking around the idea of sending up one of my pro series II kits for a level 1 cert, since I’ll be out at a big launch... debating whether I’ll do that or see if I can get this madcow patriot together by then

If exams are light that week and car is good, I’ll go. Got a SAAB RB-05A I can send up on an AT H130W. Working on a 24mm MD HPR supersonic airfoil project with a CTI G-145. Got some Estes and MPR motors to burn too. So count me down as a maybe. It’s about a five hour drive each way.

I would have made the drive from CA. But due to the time of year I can't. I would end up stopping at the Mach 1 shop and spending all my Christmas money. Everyone should nag Steve into bringing a trailer full of kits and meeting us at BALLS next year...

I used a Madcow Patriot for my L1. Had to add a lot of nose weight to get it to fly straight and it still sorta fish-tailed off the rail. Use a 5-6ft chute for it not Madcow’s stupid idea of a 3ft chute

I liked the h97 for this exact scenario. Tape over the clamshell if you're using the plastic jobbers ( Prowler, Mammoth, etc. ).

Those scale missiles generally require a lot of noseweight. Make sure you openrocket or rocksim the heck out of it if going with patriot. And there’s a pound of counterweight in my Wildman RB-05A because it had such poor stability without counterweight. OR had negative values when I first entered that kit. It flies wonderfully stable no fishtail and fine with counterweight.

Just talked a friend who has been out of rocketry for decades to get back into the hobby. He's going to do his level 1 attempt at Bama Blastoff. This is the first BAR I've recruited back into the hobby--nice feeling.

Anyone know of any big motor flights coming in for this event?

Hoping to be some big flights, for me looking at my October schedule I don’t think I’ll have my patriot ready in time, so I’m going to bring my pro series II rockets and cram the biggest motors I can find in there and see how well I built them
