Being a west coaster, we don't have to go through what is approaching North & South Carolina right now. I was in Fredericksburg, Virginia in 2003 to "enjoy" hurricane Isabel and it was quite a ride. I know we have lots of people here from a wide variety of geographic locations. I just wanted to pass on a wish that everyone safely weathers the storm if you find yourself in the midst of it.

And it's headed my way. Thank you Steve. I had the pleasure of Hugo back last time a hurricane ripped a gouge in the Carolinas. Came right over my house. Witnessed being in the eye for what seemed like 45 min to an hour. Then the winds went in the other direction. My part of town didn't have power for over 2 weeks. I'm hoping Florence isn't as bad.

Gary, I hope it isn't as bad as Hugo too. I was lucky in Isabel because power was restored very quickly where I was at. I remember driving through the main road in Fredericksburg the week after and it looked like a war zone. A long line of people were waiting to get ice at one of the building. Be safe!

Hugo taught me to be prepared for anything. I usually keep all the necessary stuff one might need. All I had to get was a couple bottles of propane for the camp stove and I filled all my jugs full of filtered water, half of which I'll freeze. Long lasting coolant for the cooler should I need to store frozen stuff.

I've been through Fran and Floyd here in RTP...but my elderly dad lives in west/central SC, and I help with his care. Normally I would drive down on Friday afternoon and come back on Monday morning...but Florence complicates things. I REALLY don't want to be on the road. Have to play it by ear.

If I got stuck at home, I could work on rockets...

Chances are, the interstates are already becoming a mess with all the evacuees. I saw this morning I-40 was in a bunch. Fortunately I don't have to travel since I work at home, so I only see what they're showing us on TV. This westerly jog prediction puts us all in those stronger wind areas of the storm. Flooding is probably going to be the biggest factor in this though.

Yup. A mess. I am going to hole up in Augusta and avoid the mess.
From the reports I've been watching, this westerly jog is likely to stay that way. Too much high pressure for it to move north, so Augusta should have CAT 2 conditions.

Everyone I hope all of you stay safe and your homes do not get much damage from the wind and rains

And all I hope you have enough prepping done so you will have water and food, if you are cut off for awhile.

Depending on conditions, I may try to go south to Glennville GA for the weekend.

Prayers and wishes for safety and minimal property damage to all affected. Keep those motors off the basement floor!

For all of you in her path, be safe. I had to evacuate last year for Irma and that was no fun. Worse part is waiting for storm to pass & not knowing if you sustained damage.

I learned first hand what a hurricane can unleash when Sandy devastated the NJ coast. Lost power for a week, had it restored, and then, a few hours later, lost power again for over a week when a freak snowstorm dumped 13 inches of heavy wet snow to add insult to the injury. Trees fell through houses all over my area from Sandy's winds and weakened root bases from the excessive rains. Be safe and be prepared if you're in the Carolinas. My sister is in the Salida SC vicinity and I'm hoping that she and her horses fair well.

Unusual times for me. Sitting here in Greenville SC. Wonder if I will be able to make it back to Germany come Tuesday......

Looks like the power level has dropped a bit. That's good news. Still, it won't be a walk in the park.

Last time I looked, NOAA predicted the eye to pass through Greenville. But that was yesterday. Not sure when the airports will reopen after the storm. Probably depends on what kind of mess they have to contend with.

Here in Anniston Alabama the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) has shut down their regularly scheduled training and is gearing up for use as a staging center and 'just-in-time' training for hurricane relief. Same thing happened last year. They didn't get back to the 'normal' teaching schedule until after the first of the year.

Positive thoughts and prayers for all down south..
Stay safe,, be careful..
Hunker down,,
Make a pot of soup,, lol..

Downgraded to a tropical storm Looks Like I got really lucky in Person County NC Going to completely miss us. Will get some rain. I have the generator and gas standing by. Unfortunately I have to go to work Saturday morning.

Now that it's on land, hope everyone is safe and dry. Looks like it may be around for a few more days.
