I'll keep my eyes peeled for that one. I went nuts and did my L3 cert flight on the N2220 there last year. My goodness, what a beast of a motor!

I think I watched that flight from the away RSO tent. Awesome! So many big motors at this launch, it's hard to keep track of all of them.

AirFest XXIV will be held at the Rocket Pasture in Argonia over the long Labor Day weekend, August 31 through September 3, 2018.

Like past years, AirFest will feature plenty of wide open recovery space, a 50,000'AGL waiver and plenty of friends and vendors. It's not too early to start making plans to attend.

Who's coming and what are you planning on flying this year?

OK, it's time to get back to the purpose of this thread.
I made a list of rockets I'm bringing to Airfest:

Friday
1. Dual deploy Estes Argent, (wind dummy) on an H115 Dark Matter.
2. 4" Punisher on an L900 Dark Matter. (first flight)
3. 3" Punisher on a K456 Dark Matter.
4. Red Tailed Extreme (L3 rocket) on a 5 grain "NYWR" ("M" something).
Do you see the trend? I hope we can fly sparkies....

Saturday
5. Jughead (5" Jart) on a 4 grain EX. "Not your Wimpy Red" (small "M")
6. Redline (Ultimate Darkstar) on an N2220 Dark Matter.

Sunday
7. CJ's two stage (3" Competitor sustainer/ Intimidator booster. K2050 Super thunder/K160 long burn.
8. 3" Blackstar on a 6 grain EX. "NYWR" (K something)
9. 4" Drago on a K850 Dark Matter.

Who's coming and what are you planning to fly this year?
Who's gonna win that 3" carbon fiber Falcon?
Where is that countdown clock?
42 days and counting....

One thing is for sure, your going to get your exercise! I hope to get my Launches done early Friday and early Saturday, so I can watch everyone else. I plan on doing my Ultimate Drago Friday morning and a 4” vindicator or a eagle claw Saturday Morning.

Reminder ...

Always a great time to talk rockets, rockets and rockets, did I mention Rockets. ;)

Have a question about volunteering. Do you have to be a Tripoli member? I went to sign up, and it asked me for my Tripoli number.

Nope! We take free labor from any organization! Just put your NAR number in the box. Thank you for stepping up!

I signed up as an LCO spotter for afternoons saturday and sunday! My husband and I can't wait!

We're working on something special...

Project name: A Pollo 13

You guys are gonna love it!

So, time for a sneak peek at AirFest. I will throw out three pieces of information that might nudge you off of top dead center if you are still on the fence about attending AirFest. I will be leaving out flyer names and flight details on purpose. Don't bother asking for more details, if the flyer wants to chime in, they can.
Number 1 - The Class 3 application has been submitted to the FAA. When approved this 16.5' long, 6" in diameter rocket will fly on a P-6500 motor.
Number 2 - As of 3PM Monday, we have approved 17 flights above 30,000'AGL. Three of these are slated for above 40,000'AGL. There is still a day and a half to add to this total.
Number 3 - On the other end of the rocketry spectrum, there is planned a mass launch for four Aerotech Phoenix rocket boosted RC gliders flying on the new 17 second burn Aerotech G8 motor. I wonder the last time four Phoenix's were in the air at the same time!
Of course there will be tons of other flights over the four days of flying. The crops are in, the fields plowed. There will be plenty of pads to fly off of with miles of flat recovery area. Food and Ice on site. With every registration, you get a free ticket to our Saturday night Burger Blast (additional tickets available to purchase on site or during the registration process). Come see us over the extended Labor Day weekend.

BBrown- I sent an email to Kloudbusters about my registration- do you know if they got it? Thanks!

Started prepping rockets for this launch. First on the list was my new 4" Punisher, going up on an L900 Dark matter.
Last month I submitted the paperwork on a 3" two stage rocket I want to fly on a K2050 booster and a K160 long burn in the sustainer. Bob got right back to me with the approval, but I think both of us are surprised that it's gonna take almost 2 seconds to reach 500 ft. Comes off the rail at 101 fps, but hits 500 ft. in 1.5 seconds. I programmed the aux. output on the RRC-3 I have in the sustainer, but will probably call Jim Amos to go over the settings before I fly it. First two stage airstart is making me a bit nervous.

Days will move around.

Hey Don, I tried to contact you via the "communication" feature on this forum. It's the little envelope in the top right corner. No reply yet. Hoping we can get together at this launch so I can GIVE YOU SOME MONEY for some old parts I need for my night rocket. Please contact me.

Can't remember and don't see on Airfest site, are sparkies allowed? Most specifically a mild one--I316 Loki Spitfire.

I believe thats a yes Tim. Only out at the 60-70 pads in the plowed dirt field. No matter what impulse. I gad a G sparky I had to fly way out there one year.

I also think captbk is correct, the first year we flew there, I brought an Estes Executioner out and flew it on a G75 from the 60's. Couldn't even see it from the flightline.
Sometimes they burn off around the 40's pads, but I'm not sure that allows sparkies up close.

Echoing what others have said already... I have a video from years past, I can hear Bob saying "all sparkies fly from the dirt" (60's pads)... :)

Ok, if you have been waiting until the end to pre-register this is your "go".

We have one week of discounted registration left, plus you can guarantee your official AIRFest t-shirt. The pre-registration deadline for AIRFest 24 is 13-Aug.

Lots of great flights, lots of great friends, highest waiver east of the Rockies, ... Get off the fence and pre-register today.

Done!

Question: I’m planning on attempting a level 2 certification flight. It is my understanding that you have to take the written test prior to the flight.

Would it be possible to take the test prior to Airfest? Or do you take it on site?

I ask because I would like to try and fly it Friday pending optimal weather conditions.

Yes you can take the written test anytime prior to your flight...good luck!
