So I watched this again this weekend, and a couple of thoughts:

This is a post Prequel Trilogy Movie, which means Darth Maul lived, and if that is the case where is he now? He obviously heads up or is very much a leader in Crimson Dawn? What happens to him and CD prior to New Hope?

Second, this is the first of the Star Wars movies that R2-D2 and C3PO have not been in. Or is it?

I caught Warwick Davis (R2) the first time around but I did not catch Anthony Daniels (C3PO) until I watched it the second time.

But is it, really? I haven't seen anything that actually places it in the timeline. It could be concurrent, more or less, with Episode 3, depending on Solo's age here and there. Not that explains the Darth Maul issue. Maybe he's a force projection? Maybe its another of his species, but not Darth Maul per se?

I think that this was a neat story to tell, but thought it was either a little rushed, or tried too hard, I'm not sure. The movie looked great, visually.

I saw it.

I liked it and didn't like it. Over all it was a fun movie. loved how the girl he left behind made it out and is / will be his potential enemy!!

I felt it should have been 3 movies. once again, 'Hollywood' has lumped what could be a few movies / a long-ish timeline into a week-end jaunt. What, he met Chewie, met Lando, made the cessle run, and got the Falcon all in one adventure?! What did he do for the next 20 years? Didn't care for that.. This movie should have been one aspect, with a teaser for movie #2 for the next part of his lore /mythology, and so on.. They used up 3 potential movies in one.. needing the big payback I guess..

Apparently, if you watch the 'clone wars cartoon, you see a fair amount of DM.. so, for about a 10 year span, he could be doing thy emperors bidding..

I thought it was fun. Not a great movie, but worth the price of admission. I don't go to Star Wars movies for high cinematic art or physics lessons, so I got what I went for, fun.

Donald Glover as Lando was perfect. Lando is one of my (if not my most) favorite character from the original 3 movies, so screwing that character up would have ruined it for me.

Darth Maul is fully explained (in detail) the the Clone Wars and Rebels cartoon series. He survives his bisection and comes back to run the criminal underworld. He is alive and well during and after the events of revenge of the sith. He is eventually killed by obi wan a few years before a new hope. To sw canon nerds, it was a cool inclusion albeit confusing to everybody else...

I absolutely hated the last Jedi but Solo was just good fun. I really enjoyed it for what it was - warts and all.

I was warned in advance to not take it too seriously. So, I took it as escapism, which worked for me. I thought the maelstrom was way more fantasy than science fiction. The movie is non-stop action and plot twists, pretty much how adventure movies are cast these days.

The film was too dark and grainy (visually, not story wise). I came away feeling I watched a VCR movie on a big screen... otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

I am currently reading book version of the Han Solo Trilogy series, having finished books 1 and 2, and now on book 3. The books go into great detail about Han Solo's early life as child thief; how he got hooked up with Jabba and the rest of the Hutts, Chewbacca, and Lando Calrissian; his five year stint as a pilot for the Imperial forces; his lucrative career as a top-notch smuggler; the circumstances leading up to getting the bounty hunter Boba Fett on his trail; how he acquired the Millenium Falcon. There is even a good explanation about what the 'Kessel Run' is.
All this is in the setting of the rising power and galactic oppression of the Empire under Palatine and Darth Vader, and the formation of the Rebel Alliance.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I hear that there are a lot of contradictions and differing accounts between that and the book series.

I went in pretty much expecting Dumpster Fire, but it was fun and I enjoyed it. I think it felt more "Star War" than TFA and LJ did. I still think it would have been a better Lando Movie with Han and Chiewie showing up in it than Han 's back story. I don't want a lot of back story of known characters, it feels redundant in the new movies. I liked Rouge 1 because it filled in a place in the universe that could be argued wasn't needed but it did it with mostly new characters and told a good story that added to the whole. (Not sure Solo dds much to the whole as it had to hit stuff we already knew, rescue Chewie, Kessel run, win the falcon form Lando) The exploring the new and bringing more into the universe that R1 did is the same thing I liked about the Rebels cartoon winch was fantastic. Main characters from the movies get pulled in to support and tie the story to into the over all SW plot but the leads are new and different.

I am so disappointed in what Lucas Film, Kathleen Kennedy and Rain Johnson are doing to Star Wars. The Last Jedi was just horrid so I waited to see Solo until the very end. Solo had a lot of faults, a product of a troubled production and a jumbled script. I have no interest in Episode IX as I was not a fan of The force Awakens and all of JJ Abram's mystery boxes that Rain Johnson just threw over his shoulder. Master George Lucas jumped the shark with the Ewoks and the prequels were a mess, but at least he stuck to the mythos. Lucas Film continues to use shills and tries to deflect or ignore criticism, thus destroying and alienating a large part of the fan base with their brash comments and excuses. The fan boycott is real and a significant loss of good will has occurred. The sad part is you only have to look at the other franchises that have sunk do to the exact same things (Ghostbusters, DCEU, Marvel Comics, etc.) Just look at Solo's box office; the first Star Wars film to loose money! Toy sales are horrid, the Last Jedi's Blue rays sales were poor, the films are really bombing in China. Nihilism and large doses of SJW politics are a recipe for marketing disaster. If you think the Empire was bad, that the First Order is a bit nasty, just wait until DISNEY unleashes its wrath, but it may be too late. So many movies, streaming TV shows, merchandising and park attractions are tied to this intellectual property that I hope the MOUSE steps in and cleans house before the balance sheet is irreparably damaged.

Star Wars, a New Hope - A
The Empire Strikes Back - A
Return of the Jedi - B
Revenge of the Sith - C
Rogue One - C
Attack of the Clones - C-
Phantom Menace - C-
Solo - C-
The Force Awakens - D
The Last Jedi - F

I agree with Chuck and think Solo was fun. I particularly enjoyed how they revisited "Han shoots first" near the end.

Just to be an outlier again, I am definitely a fan of Star Wars (and the Phantom Menace since I was the optimal age to view it in theaters, ie. 7 ), yet utterly despise the survival/resurrection of Darth maul. His character totally changed and he Talked Too Much. It was in my opinion the most horrendous ploy of fanservice ever, as if the powers at be were pandering to the horde of 13 year olds that saw it, loved Maul, kept complaining and writing fan fiction about him surviving, and have since grown into ....whatever they are today. (full disclosure, never really liked the animated clone wars series either). The only really masterful scene with returned Maul was his death (again via Kenobi).

Don't get me wrong, I loved Maul in Menace. At that age I thought he was an awesome mysterious bad guy, that had the greatest lightsaber fight of all time, and met an epic and just end at the hands of the good guys. It could have stayed that way too....

Warwick Davis played "Wicket" (an Ewok) in Return of the Last Jedi. I mean, Return of the Jedi.

As for R2, he was played by the late Kenny Baker.

Oh damn..... Correction, my memory did not compute that correctly. I double checked IMDB and I am right about Anthony Daniels at least.
