What's going on? New Format???

MASSIVE waste of screen space with the Facebook-ish scrunching of the actual messages to about 3/5 the page width, the remaining 2/5 on the right for a short list of new posts with nothing but wasted white space below that short list. This really screws with the usefulness of the forum for build threads and other visual presentations by reducing the width for photos. And causing extremely longer scrolling for all message threads.

You can turn off the side bar on the right by going to "Preferences" (https://www.rocketryforum.com/account/preferences).

Not a fan of the new format.
I hate it when they "Improve" something that was working well.
My avatar now has the nose cone chopped off.

Angie,
On my OpenRocket files thread, I'm currently unable to edit the posts (which were all done prior to the change). Any idea if that will be fixed?

https://www.rocketryforum.com/threads/kteshs-openrocket-files.123564/

Also, all of the flickr images seem to be working. I dunno about the images that were posted as attachments.

[EDIT]
I'm seeing some attached images, but they're HUGE... The .ork files themselves appear to be intact.

Please try to edit now. And take a look at the size of full images now.

I still can't edit my posts from 2015 (where I keep my links to the rockets' .ork files).

Attached images look like they have a default to either full size, or if larger than the window, fit to window.

I'm sorry you don't like it yet. It does take a bit when someone changes things. I know exactly how you feel, I've hated it too. But then I'll discover a couple of things I really like better than the old version and all gets better. And this has the security feature that the old forum didn't have, which is one of the reasons for the change now. All the browsers are becoming so sensitive to that httpS . It really is done to take care of you and the other members.

Please give it a few days before you really decide.

@K'Tesh how old are those threads, and were you able to edit to that timeframe before the change?

EVERYONE, PLEASE PUT YOUR INFORMATION HERE. Links with examples of what you are reporting will be very helpful. I'm signing off for now, but will be back in the morning to help you out.

That thread is over 3 years old. I was able to edit them. Though I don't remember exactly when the last time I did on post number 2... Likely some time around April of this year.

I loved the app. Used it to access the forum almost 100%... Now I'm logged in and it is just blank. If there's a new app or whatever, please let us know.
I'm not a huge fan of change, but... It's the internet, and things change constantly. As a Google-phile, I'm used to dramatic shifts in UI, getting used to the new, then another dramatic shift in UI again, LoL...

@blackjack2564 The numbered items were hyper links? Right? Did they go off site or to a thread here? And if a thread on site, what forum was it in?

It was in same thread [High Power] I have no idea what was done or what things are called. hyperlink is gibberish to me...sorry.
Green jello organized my build thread, so others could find things easily, by segment. There were over 120,000 views of the original, the sticky just linked to it somehow....Wayco may know how it was done. My basic problem is...old [66]& computer illiterate. It took me 2 yrs to be comfortable using all the features of the old forum and "find" all the tricks. I'll be dead before I figure the new one out.....LOL
I did see where I am considered a "Notable Member" what ever that means...LOL

when following links from google searches, instead of going to the thread in question, it takes you to the home page. Makes it next to impossible to search the forum. Actually, its any link to a forum thread. This is a issue

Apparently the new software doesn't support extended ASCII characters. The title below my username should be five star characters.

Well, at least I figured out how to turn off the stinkin ads... there's an option for in in the Preferences section. Select "YES" to Disable Advertising, and you can shut off the annoying Sidebar as well.

It will take Google a little while to reindex the site. I think it won't take longer than a few days for most of the results to be correct.

In my limited testing, though, I found that this site's built-in search is working fine.

The dialog that pops up, however, may be a little confusing. It took me a second to realize that the bar at the top that looks like a header with a magnifying glass in it is actually the input field for the search text.

Links from other websites may be broken and remain broken unless the admins of all of those sites update the links or the admins of this site redirect them to the new URLs.

I usually am a show learner/adopter but I think the new site works way better than the old one - certainly on mobile.

The look and feel of the browser version on chrome on my Android device is GREAT. ... and so much more control over small details with all the Alert and Preference settings.

I am not a sophisticated used at all and am more of a lurker, but this this sure fits my usage needs. I'll try it on the desktop later, although I'm probably a 70% mobile user.

Angie & team, thanks keeping things current.

GET OFF MY LAWN!

The new site probably uses different encoding for characters. If your keyboard allows it, you should be able to directly enter Unicode characters such as stars. On my phone, I "long press" the asterisk to get a black star. ★★★★★

ugh. this is terrible. boo

Why? Just saying it terrible does not give any direction about what is terrible. Do you just not like it, or is there a specific problem you can give an example of, so I can investigate and possibly do something to make it better for you.
Or is it the change? I can understand that.

It's change. He's a j***a**.

It's cluttered, quoting appears to take additional steps, and I don't see a purpose for changing a format that worked.

Okay, I'm withholding any judgements at this point but here are my observations so far:

1) Logging in was painless and the new system "remembered" my old password etc. - Painless
2)I don't see more than one or two ads and I haven't removed the sidebar or opted out of ads yet. As it is the sidebar is only about three inches wide. - Not sure what folks are fussing about unless they see something VERY different than what my system is doing (Firefox)
3) Other than literally one or two places where people were talking about pictures (and member photos), I'm not seeing pictures or videos or much of anything... yet. Just hyperlinks.
4) The fonts at the top of the page that we often use for navigation definitely need to be several sizes bigger.

As noted, I'm using a desktop with Firefox.

On the mobile app, I get zip, nada, zilch. Everything is "empty."

I very much liked the old version better.

Sure, it was getting hard to upload photos, but I learned to deal with it.

I guess I'll have to get used to this new forum.

:(

Thanks,

Have you turned off the right bar and ads?

I have. the issue is the format comes out as a giant wall of unbroken crap. not enough visual separation between posts, and the actual posts are now less prominant than all the surounding crap.

Yes, theres a giant blue bar, and within each post the clutter of tagline and the sidebar.... It just visually flows terribly.

Where are you not seeing photos. I need specifics, so I can check on things, please.
Also, mobile app - the branded one and android or ioS? Have you uninstalled and reinstalled to reset it?

One of the best things I like so far is how simple adding photos is now. Basically a copy/paste straight out of the hard drive. Like Peartree, I still have no ad issues (Firefox on desktop) but I also have an ad blocker. Navigating is going to get easier once we let the dust settle. This is just like last time. The forum changed and most everybody whined about it. (Bought a truck load of cheese to go with that) But once they adapted, they were OK with it. They'll do the same thing again this time around. I'm sure if you guys give the mods a chance and keep your negative input at bay, you'll find this change isn't so bad as you thought. They'll get the kinks out.
:mad::mad: NOW, HOW BOUT FIXING MY AVATAR:mad::mad::mad:. And what's up with the limited number of smilies?

OK, so now after looking around the forum, now I REALLY don't like it!

EVERYTHING IS WRONG!

Is it at all possible to switch back to the old template?

Thanks,
