walking 12-15 miles every day just burns it up. <snip>

It shows what the human body is evolved for. We were meant to be moving all day long, not necessarily intensely, but continuously. If you are doing that, then all the things we crave make sense --- sweet, fat, salt. Fuel for a working body.

I walk 12+ miles a day at work.... this theory explains why I love crappy foods and keep in generally good shape. ;) I'm never going to bid a driving route...I'd put on 50 pounds easy. heck, i took 3 months off when my daughter was born and put on over 30 pounds.

Very interesting notes on the food and meal differences.... I could deal with two breakfasts.

To be straight with you all, I never really cared for McD's food until I watched supersize me! I probably use 3 times a month now. I don't supersize anything though. Go figure.

Are you a mail carrier? I imagine that would keep you in great shape.

You are absolutely right that when you stop a daily routine that is very active, you can gain a lot of eight very fast. We were in Spain a total of 9 weeks, and when we stopped walking, we still had about 2 weeks to spend there. We shifted to vacation mode --- no more hikes, still eating whatever we wanted. I knew I had lost a lot of weight and gained muscle, but I could feel the weight already coming back in those last couple of weeks. When we got home, I was still down 9 pounds, and my body fat percentage had dropped to below 19 (from above 25 before the Camino) and that was after already gaining some weight back. Within a month or so of being back, I gained back everything, and it was really hard to train myself off of eating whatever I wanted.

Want to make sure the egg that winds up on your McGriddle is fresh from the carton? Order a “round egg,” suggests one Quora user and former McDonald’s employee. If you don’t make this request, your eggs will come from a powdered mix.

The Fruit 'N Yogurt Parfait Isn’t Healthy Sure, it sounds like a healthy option, but with 22 grams of the sweet stuff, the yogurt parfait is nothing more than a calcium-filled sugar mine.

The McRib Has No Rib
That's right. Despite the name of the sandwich, in reality, there's no rib in the McRib. The pork is pressed into the rib-like shape via a mold, just like Jell-O.

Skip the Grilled Chicken
In 2015, a Reddit user who claimed to be a McDonald’s manager cautioned against ordering anything made with grilled chicken, including salads and sandwiches. “It’s horrible frozen chicken that we defrost and steam, and it’s a bit gelatinous,” he writes.

Shamrock Shake = 99% Corn Syrup

MICKEY D'S SELLS FAKE FOOD. THE FDA SHOULD SHUT THEM DOWN!

Remember that story a few years ago about a person who was served a fried chicken head at McDonalds?

People were calling it a Chicken McNoggin.

Um, DON'T READ THEIR BLOG. I thought they may have been jihadists, but are actually for certain rights. I did not intend to post anything inappropriate. Just thought the worms and eyeballs were funny. Let McD's sue them over the "kids". I screened the heck out of that site, but just read the blog. DO NOT READ UNLESS want to get offended.

Will be more careful, or delete it if anyone goes ballistic.

Yes I heard recently about the chicken head somewhere. I have got to quit reading about this stuff. Will find a new sick subject. Maybe Kim Jong un. That TEAM AMERICA
movie cracked me up.

That is one messed up site! I thought the flat-earthers were bad!

Hey, one of the Cleve. Cavs here believes that. I was going to email him and say DUDE, AT LEAST BASKETBALLS ARE ROUND OR YOU WOULD BE OUT OF A JOB.

Here's a McNoggin. It's great with the right dippin' sauce!

YUMMY! But I would expect something like that from KFC (Kentucky Fried Critter).

Herm I typed a reply but the inter webs ate it. It was high in fat, hope it doesn't cause bloat ;)

You caught me, I am. For the last 6 years, I was close enough to home to stop back for lunch. I ate pretty well then. I moved 6 months ago and haven't really settled into a good routine. My goal is a breakfast sandwich at home with some coffee, a light snack at ten with a drink, soup and sandwich around 2 for lunch, then dinner around 7.

This setup makes taking lunches pretty awesome. I'm thinking of getting the larger sized food jar to add into the mix.

I've seen many claims, and do not doubt, that American Chinese is a total fabrication. However, not so much on what's authentic. Have any examples? I understand it's likely more veggies and rice and less meat, etc, but I'm guessing a pretty high salt content.

Anyways, interested to see some "real" stuff. And the fake is pretty tasty.

Trying to find a restaurant that serves authentic Chinese food is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. You can find them in New York, San Francisco and Toronto Chinatowns. But for local restaurants, you have to go where the majority of the clientele is Chinese. Even then, you may have to ask for the Chinese menu. But then which kind of Chinese food? There are Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghai, Taiwan, etc, etc, etc styles and they're all different.

I have a friend who owns a Chinese restaurant. He has 2 menus...the Chinese menu and the American menu. You can guess what's in the American menu...General Tso Chicken, egg rolls, moo goo gai pan, Chao Mian (mislabeled Lo Mein), etc. If you see a menu that has that stuff on it, you know it's not authentic Chinese and it's probably loaded with fat and salt. Best bet for real Chinese food is to make friends with Chinese families who have emigrated to the States and get invited to their house.

Staples are rice and noodles. Lots of veggies, small amounts of meat, not a lot of cooking oil, small amounts of soy sauce (NO soy sauce in fried rice...ever), maybe some MSG or salt, very little sugar in desserts. Restaurant food will almost always be tastier than home cooked, no matter what ethnicity.

Do you mean to tell me they don't eat Panda Express Orange Chicken in China? They don't live off deep-fried, breaded chicken nuggets tossed in orange sugar glaze?

I went with a friend to a Chinese restaurant one time, and we were given a regular Americanized menu with all the familiar dishes on it. We noticed a table of Chinese customers eating some things that were not on the menu, so my friend asked what they were having. The server said, "Not for white people!" LOL! I'm sure she meant to say, "Those are some authentic Chinese dishes that don't always appeal to western tastes." But something got lost in translation!

I've been to San Francisco Chinatown, and you can get some really weird food there. The dim sum dishes are pretty much the same whether you are in a place that is authentic or not. But when you get into an actual menu, it can get strange. I'm willing to try just about anything offered to me, but if I'm ordering, I tend to stick with the familiar stuff. I had one friend who liked to order something odd whenever we went to Chinatown, sometimes it was ok, but usually it was a miss.

Though I know there is crap in fast food, but this video is annoying (her voice is awful). They try to make some things sound worse than they are. Cellulose has not been shown to be harmful to people, but just because it's in wood, they claim it's bad. That's like claiming water is bad for you because there is water in battery acid. They are being very misleading. If they presented the facts in an unbiased and non-misleading way, I would actually watch the whole video and believe what they said. But since they're trying to mislead people, I won't listen to ANYTHING they say.

Funny how this thread went full circle, because in China, they think all Americans eat McDonalds three times a day.

My friend who owns the Chinese restaurant used to own a Japanese restaurant, but the staff was all Chinese, so the hot Japanese food kind of tasted Chinese. But I used to stay after closing and eat with them. What they ate was nothing like what you see in an American Chinese restaurant. Nothing weird, just prepared differently with Asian veggies and light sauces. Every Sunday, we would all go to a local Sichuan restaurant and spend about 2 hours eating the real thing. Pure bliss!

I have another friend who owned a Chinese restaurant. I would often visit after Taiji classes and eat with the staff. Again, nothing weird, but very flavorful and very healthy.

My wife is northeastern Chinese, so we eat a lot of noodle dishes, dumplings, stews and soups, which is fine with me. Low sodium and low fat. She also makes killer kielbasa, sauerkraut, potato pancakes and corn bread.

The stuff that's sold in practically every Chinese restaurant in the USA is fake Chinese food. Chinese people don't eat that stuff. Real Chinese food is healthy.

I completely agree with you. As soon as Americans got a hold of it, they bastardized it. Just like with Mexican food, same issue. That's why you don't see two thirds of China being obese unlike Americans. I imagine at one point Mexicans didn't have the weight issue in their country either. Then the good ole' USA came over and the rest is history.

Blaming Americans for unhealthy cooking ignores the fact Europe exists and has been making some pretty unhealthy foods for much much longer ;) And man I love them all for it.

I've tried finding good Chinese cookbooks. Trouble is I don't know what I'm looking for, and any good websites, like any other country, aren't in english. I can wade through a french or Italian menu, but Chinese...not so much.

Out of any European countries it's the UK that has ranked low in healthy eating. Germany too. Nevertheless it's American persuasion that brought Asian cooking down to it's knees and well as TexMex cooking.

I don't know that America brought it to its knees. More like immigrants adjusted to local tastes and made a good living off it. It's not like Taco Bell where it's a pure bastardization.

I grew up in San Diego, where you can get good, authentic Mexican food. So for a long time, I refused to eat Taco Bell on the principle that it was fake Mexican. But once I stopped thinking of it as Mexican, I started to appreciate it as fast-food crap with a spicy twist. Now I kind of like it if I'm stuck eating fast food. Don't they now have a taco where the "shell" is made of fried chicken? Ain't nuthin' more 'Murican than that!
