What are you working off of? Are you going for the carving method or the cardstock method, or something else entirely?

I'm going to wait for the before-easter stuff, find a plastic egg about 6" in the short diameter. Instant trace compression block engine. Add a 29mm tube through it for the MMT, probably use cardboard to block out the main section.

I'll prolly have to use clear fins, though.

You have a thing for making me tell you to walk to the orange pads, don't you?

Guilty as charged.

Just picked up my $14.99 DVD set from Target. :marshmallow:

Just watched "Serenity" the movie the other day on SCI-FI channel.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serenity_(film))

That was a lot darker mood wise than the TV pilot.

Unfortunately It came on in the afternoon on SCI-FI so there were constasnt interruptions. I missed a lot.

I'll just have to wait for it to come on again.

But can someone answer me something.

Wash and Shepard Book were killed in the movie?

Yes, both Wash and Book die during the movie.

Old as the movie is I sure hope I didn't spoil anything for anybody.

Not everybody knows the outcomes of some movies.

Just about 12 years ago a friend came over to watch Star War "The Empire Strikes Back" with my daughter and me.

When it was relieved in the movie about the heritage of Luke Skywalker my buddy exclaimed, "Darth Vader is Luke's father!"

My daughter laughed so hard she almost wet herself. My daughter still gets a kick out of remembering that.

Within my circle of friends, it has also become tradition, when introducing someone to Firefly, to convince them that Kaylee dies during the first episode*.

* Serenity-the-episode, that is. Not Train Job, which is good but should not have been the pilot.

Buy the DVD set! It will last longer!

BTW, Mal's on-screen ex-wife Saffron rocks. She's currently playing the character Joan Holloway on Mad Men. Red hair has always called to my Celtic blood.

Yes, both Wash and Book die during the movie.

I'm still mad at Whedon for that; Wash not so much, but Book... I was sure hoping to find out who/what he really was someday.

My :2: is on some kind of Alliance big-shot, a General or higher. I think it would have been really interesting to see how Mal would have reacted should Book be responsible for the Alliance victory at the Battle of Serenity Valley. :pop:

You should expect death from Whedon. He has a tendency to kill characters, and often it's the right thing to do because in a really battle the good guys rarely make it through unscathe like they do in the movies.

Book's back story came out in comic book form but it is hard to find (at least locally) need to snag a copy for myself. Shepherd's Story by Dark Horse Comics

That itself doesn't bug me, unless you've had only 8 episodes and 1/2 movie of content and have previously hinted at a big, intriging backstory that you can now never really fully explore. Other than in a comic book.

Personally, I would have toasted Kaylee instead of Book. :madnote:

Does the comic book pre-date the movie? I haven't seen any of the comic books.

But yeah I liked the grieving-spouse-with-a-big-gun attitude from Zoe. That at least made Wash biting it palatable.

Heh, I absolutely loved the way Blake's 7 treated its characters. One of the BEST series finales I've ever seen. :eyepop:

I think death is one of the things that Whedon does best. Some of the best episodes of Buffy are the ones which deal with the death of a major character, IMO.

You should probably thank Fox for that, not Whedon. :(

Cheers,
Phil

Wik's right in the blame and I agree with his Whedon and death comment as well. I'm not saying book had to die but his death was a huge marker in Mal's Story arc in the movie. Without the slaughter at Haven, which includes Book, Mal's sense of justice and protecting the innocent would not have been fueled enough to take on the Reevers.

The first couple pages of the book are on Dark Horse's site it starts with the attack on Haven and then flashes back to Book and Jayne on Serenity. Then I'm assuming flashes back further and we get the rest of the story.

Maybe Book was an Operative....

Maybe he believes.......

This is hinted at in the series - his close-quarters takedown of Dobson in the first episode, and a lot in War Stories where he recognizes a sniper rifle from the wounds it makes, and then proceeds to kneecaps a whole lot of Niska's mooks.

It may be confirmed in "A Shepherd's Tale", but I have not yet read it.

Well I just wanted to thank y'all for turning me on to this excellent series. I missed it the first time around but thanks to Netflix I fixed that.

"Serenity" the movie is on Scyfy channel this afternoon at 5:30.

Wow! actual science fiction on the Scyfy channel.

Go figure.

There will probably be more ghosts tomorrow.

I got my copy of Shepard's Tale" and read it the other night. It's Fantastically Awesome. A very good telling of Book's back story. It's a progressive series of flashbacks which may be hard to follow for some readers. I had to get it from amazon because all the local comic shops were sold out.

I'm also adding in my thanks for the recommendation. I picked up the DVD set and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was glad they did the movie because I wasn't too keen on no resolution of any of the story lines or characters.

For anyone looking for sci fi recommendations, I asked here last year before surgery and got a lot of good recommendations:
