This dire thread, which comes from a long line of dire threads by the same OP, finally pushed me into figuring out how the forum ignore feature works...

I guess all you guys are missing the point. The original reason for my original post was genuine. In this day and age respect for your fellow adults, respect your elders has disappeared. Kids these days think they are right all the time. They dont know when to stop. Technically, there should be no age limit on this forum but because the way society is and how kids are these days that is why I think there should be a minimum age. Young people get on here and they dont respect anyone and their ideas. yes, when one person messes up it messes up everyone.

I think kids and rockets is great. But kids get on here and cause mischief. Thats why I recommend parental guidance for the kids that are on here under a certain age.

I am a school teacher and I see it all the time. Kids these days are so entitled. They think they have earned everything without any work being done. I believe it all starts at home. Parents dont want to be parents anymore. They just have kids to have kids. Its all about RESPECT. It then spreads to every situation. This happens in all walks of life.

When I teach kids I teach discipline. Children should not speak unless spoken to or called upon. Any adult or stranger should get the same respect from children. Because society has gotten easy on rules and discipline our core and moral values have begun to erode.

There you go, I am done.

Your age limit idea is a solution in search of a problem. Generally, the young people who post here are great members, and they add a perspective to the community that is valuable and enjoyable. If some of them come off to you as disrespectful, it might be because kids enjoy tormenting curmudgeons, which is a valuable function in society. Also, disrespectful behavior is not something confined to only the young members of this forum. In fact, the most disrespectful and annoying members are definitely not young. Now and then we get a minor come on the forum who causes some eye rolling (usually has something to do with how many G80's it takes to get to space), and they don't really want to listen to the advice given, but we've also had adults go down that same path. It can be annoying, but it can also be amusing in its own way. A few bad apples is a small price to pay for the generally positive contributions of our young members. Overall, I'm very impressed with the youth on this forum.

And with that, could we, maybe, let this thread die?

I am starting a revolution here on the forum. I think there should be a minimum age requirement. Sure there are plenty of humble responsible young people on the forum. Just like other social media there are age requirements. This newest generation of people feel like they are so entitled to everything without even working for it. That spills over on here when people like that think they know everything. To me its laughable. I just think to be on here maybe people should have to be 16 or older. Yea there are lots of immature people around age 16 but requiring a min at 16 it will weed the real immature ones. Just saying. People you know who I am talking about. Respect your elder! Young people dont know that concept.

Shove it

You wanna see disrespect? Now I'm talking about adults here not kids. In the Research Forum some folks talk about their pet project on APCP motor design and it gets a courteous, respectful reply by a very experienced member. The OP
then spouts off dissing the (sound) information given and gets yanked when their project blows!

I'm not smart enough to be giving much advice there but I've received very intelligent answers to questions I've had. I shake my head when I see someone who's obviously inexperienced spouting off against someone who knows what they are
talking about. Kurt

Out of curiosity, and for context on your perspective, what subject(s) do you teach?

....and, is your school a public or parochial institution and what is the age range of your students. Perhaps the OP should have included a poll in his original thread.

Well, if they like Twinkies, they should make fine rocketeers!

Physical Education. Do you believe it or not some kids dont like PE. Some dont want to participate because you have to move. Kids actually tell me "umm i am tired and I dont want to play" "I dont want to do pe because I dont want to dirty my shoes" "I dont want to get sweaty" I have decided not to play today"

just some of the excuses. lol Kids think they are entitled. No they are there to learn and participate in physical exercise. As it is kids dont get enough Pe anyway and when they get the chance to participate they dont want to.

Wow, I have literally no experience with that. I'm just happy if my kids slow down enough their coloring isn't subject to the Doppler effect.

Hey Thisty aren't you the Queen Bee on that forum?

Not exactly sure what a Queen Bee is in that context. ??? I did give it a try during one of the big mass-banning episodes here on TRF, but it was just boring. Pretty much zero traffic. You see more new posts here in a day than you see in a month there. I would guess it's been more than a year since I logged in there.

Queen Bee - a girl who, usually in a high school setting, is the "leader of the pack." she doesn't always have to be the prettiest, but she is extremely confident, and because she thinks she's hot, others do too. she knows all of the "important" gossip, and people emulate her style. if the queen bee wears something new and different, others will wear it the next day. she always has the hottest boyfriend, and is at all the parties. everyone always talks behind her back about how much they hate her, even though everyone secretly wishes they were her friend.

Sound like you?

Thanks for the explanation. That is DEFINITELY me! That's why EVERYONE is wearing horns now. I started that!

I'm pretty sure I have no idea how old most of you are...........

Not that it matters, I still enjoy coming here.

And acceptance is the answer to all my problems today.
When I am disturbed,
It is because I find some person, place, thing, situation --
Some fact of my life -- unacceptable to me,
And I can find no serenity until I accept
That person, place, thing, or situation
As being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment.
Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in God's world by mistake.
Unless I accept life completely on life's terms,
I cannot be happy.
I need to concentrate not so much
On what needs to be changed in the world
As on what needs to be changed in me and in my attitudes.

i suggest ya go to the nearest pediatric cancer treatment center and talk to the parents of the children there fighting for their lives about this issue.

Wow again real mature of you adults. Blackbrandt said pretty much what I'm thinking. Really guys an age requirement don't you want more people to join rocketry to keep the sport going. And lets say we had an age requeirment how would this be enforced all the kids would just lie on their profile page and just say they're 18. Again really guys really

Um, there's only one "guy" advocating this.
