Been reading this forum for awhile ad have picked up a lot of good information. Time to jump in with a post.

Working on Der V3 I picked up awhile ago and integrating a baffle in to the motor mount. The plan is to block the top of the tube and vent out the sides of the mount. An additional centering ring will add another turn for the gases. My question is on how to best protect the bottom side of the balsa block? Worries its going to get blasted pretty good. Especially since I also changed the motor hook to accept E engines.ImageUploadedByRocketry Forum1459546743.064500.jpgImageUploadedByRocketry Forum1459546773.194936.jpgImageUploadedByRocketry Forum1459546798.422879.jpg

I'd thin down some heat resistant epoxy like jb weld and paint the bottom of the block and the bottom of the top centering ring. Maybe also the top of the middle centering ring.

That could work. I should probably put some down inside the tube as well, around the ports. The motor tube is on the thin side.

I would not hesitate to use a nice think layer of wood glue on the side facing the blast.

Also, if I were doing this I might put some stainless steel mesh in the baffle, similar to the AeroTech style baffles. I'd probably put it between the motor tube and the main BT-80 right where the gases come in.

And one more thing...the E9/E12 should have the same ejection charge as a D12.
