So what is the admission price to your "Rocketry Temple"? Glad you were able to take care of the code violations, nothing worse than an electrical fire!Finished up most of the demo on my garage remodel last night. When done it will be fully insulated, have a ductless heating and air system, a kindof cathedral ceiling (exposing plenty of rocket storage space in the trusses), a 20 amp circuit just for the garage receptacles, about 10000 lumens of LED lighting, and a huge work table in the center. This is going to take awhile, but when it is all done I will have a place to build where I don't have to get everything out and put it away each time.

I guess it really won't be a garage at that point as much as it will be a workshop with a really big door. Going to put the table on wheels though so it can be pushed aside to make room for the van when hail is in the forecast...so it will still be a garage a few days a year
Next step is to clean up all the nasty wiring mess that was in the ceiling for the opener, sprinklers, and house wiring. Looks like a drunken fool installed all this stuff. I've found enough safety issues already to justify the project alone.
Garages aren't for parking cars, the only people that do that don't have hobbies or have enough money to have a seperate shop and craft room (if Momma doesn't have her personal space she will take over yours!).

Just jealous, I live in an apartment.
Let's see how much this project comes in at before I set admission pricing. Even doing 95% of the work myself this project is going to get spendy.
I am glad I got up in the previously unexplored space. I particularly liked the electrical wires wrapped around the gas line. When my neighborhood was built the building inspector was either completely incompetent, or suddenly developed an off the books stream of income. The stuff I have found is truely amazing. This is the last area of the house I haven't worked on, and made right.
Or more likely a previous home owner made their own "renovations" without a permit.
Many of the issues definately go back to construction, i.e. original wiring layout, stud quantity and placement in load baring walls, etc. I have fixed quite a few "improvements" done by the previous owners too.
Also, what are these "permits" you are talking about...I am unfamiliar with these things.
Gross.I use the garage and the basement as a work shop, but somedays, I wish I could use my garage for my car... Like one of these days...
Interesting. I didn't know about these LED options. Are you satisfied with them and how would you compare them to neons?Installed 4 of these lights in the garage today. 14400 lumens of goodness...it's like high noon at any time of day.

I love them. Especially for a work space. The whitness of the light would be a bit harsh in a living area, but it is perfect for a shop. After running them for 1 h they are still cool to the touch, and they aren't fragile. I have been known to take out a fluorescent tube with shovel handles, levels, 2x4s, etc. before. While the upfront costs are higher than fluorescents the lack of break-ability makes up for it in my mind.
I'm seriously considering them for my workshop then. I will be rebuilding the whole room this year. And you don't have to worry about breakage and mercury from the breakage, and in the long term no bulbs to buy for a very long time.
