Freedom Munitions now has .22lr. It's not the best price, but they have lots in stock. 8 cents a round -ish. Copper jacketed

I got an email from Graf & Sons last week and normally I disregard the sales emails since I get so many, but took a look at this one and saw this:

I clicked on it and was surprised it actually was in stock (free shipping too, but you pay $7.95 flat fee due to ammo purchase). Also they give free targets with their current promotion. I did this 10 minutes after they sent the email, so if you really want the ammo at a good price, it is possible, but you'll have to keep your eyes open and sign up for store promo emails, etc. Consider it "ammo hunting". ;)

Graf & Sons is a great place to deal with. Use to buy powder from them before all the powder hoarding began!

Just got a reactive target. Lots of fun to shoot without having to reset targets every time its shot

Just took a new Kahr P380 to the range today with 250 rounds of Freedom Munitions .380. Though I got through all the ammo, the gun was a jam-o-matic. FTF, FTE, you name it. Anyone else had trouble with that ammo? I suspect it was underpowered and the strong recoil string was not agreeing with it.

I have fired 1,000+ rounds of Freedom Munitions ammo with no issues. This has been through a Glock 19 and a Sig Sauer P238 which is a bugger to feed.

I don't own a .380 but can vouch for their 9mm and their .223/556. literally 1000's of round with two flaws. Both were on their reloaded ammo, both crimped badly. I never attempted to discharge them, but they obviously were flawed. Again though, that is 2 out of perhaps 6000.

Agreed, I fire a P226 which is dead picky and it loves their 115gr 9mm reloads.

I picked up a Daisy Red Ryder Carbine (BB) at Wally World today and marked off one of the longest standing items on my bucket list. I was rather pleasantly surprised by the quality of the current offering.

Anyone interested in acquiring one of these for the princely sum of $24.79 should hie himself over to Wal Mart and pick one before the Christmas rush begins. They are hard to find at other times of the year.

Remember to wear your shooting glasses because as Santa told Ralphie "You'll shoot your eye out, kid!"

I went to a indoor range after work yesterday (Fri.) with some coworkers. I have not been to this range in over 10 years. While a coworker was reading over the range rules I inquired about the time between shots and was informed 2 seconds. I said something to the effect of "that's about normal, & the double taps will be slow". Well to my surprise the gentelman behind the counter said, "oh no, double taps are allowed, just 2 seconds between double taps". I was very happy as I have never found any range in my area that allowed this. Got some great trigger time and results with my double taps. Oh, I was using my Springfield stainless TRP, with Remington 230 gr. ball.

OK, so here's a strange one.

The daughter's ex-BF is a rifleman in the Marine Corps Reserve. I'm told they give 'em a rifle, and that's it. This young man tells me he has never handled a handgun.

Something about that bugs the daylights out of me. I do not know why, but it does.

I'm taking that kid shooting. Gonna start him out slow, with a Ruger Mark 2. Let him run a few mags thru that, then hand him the Browning H-P. See how he handles it.

Then the fun starts. I'll explain a little rocketry to him. Newton's Third Law. That's when he learns that a 158 grain load from a 357 kicks a little more than a 110 from a nine millimeter. :)

My brother asked me if I want to borrow his 454 Casull. Think I'll pass on that this time. Want to teach this young man to shoot, not scare the hell out of him. :y:

Good on you cherokeej... My wife, who is terrified of guns, especially handguns, has asked to learn to handle/shoot them. She has not said as much, but I may sign her up for some lessons. Basic gun safety and handling to start. I own one wheelie gun and one semi auto, 38-Special & 9mm respectfully. I purchased these items somewhat with her in mind... she would to be able to manage the recoil. Who knows, one day we may come to depend on something learned from these classes...we surely hope not. Otherwise, we can surely benefit from the joy of shooting, knowing we did it safely.

Not scaring the heck out of the young man is best... 45 cal is a sensible round, but admittedly, even I cannot manage the recoilf very well.

He's a Marine...give him all you got...he'll suck it up.

Just one piece of advice to add...I have a .50 Desert Eagle which I've let others shoot...I only load one round for the newbies and my one big rule (aside from obvious standard gun safety) is "DON'T DROP THE GUN!".

The other rule (which is optional) might be "Don't hit yourself in the face with the gun".

Hehehehehehe....

The first time my brother took his wife to the range, he handed her a 10 inch T/C Contender in 30/30 Winchester, with a 150 grain factory round in it. She took aim, drew the hammer back, and squeezed the trigger.

Yup. She dropped it. The broken hammer cost him a taste over $100 to get replaced.

Busy weekend. Yesterday I took my son to a Jr pheasant hunt and I went to shoot a ICORE tournament. Today its cleaning day!!!

Just scored on a Ruger mini14.
Can't wait to try it next week. Anyone have one? Just wondering if a scope is very necessary.

I have one and love it! What flavor did you get? Standard, Ranch rifle or one of the Tactical models.

I got mine 15 years ago. I got the Government model called the GB, which came with a "Flash Suppresser & Bayonet LUG":y: At the time you could only get a GB through the secondary market ie: prisons, police dept. who were selling their Mini's when they purchased AR-15s. This was because the owner of Ruger, Bill Ruger would only sell them to Law Enforcement & foreign governments. It was after his death that the company started to sell tactical versions of the Mini 14 to the public.

A scope will absolutely make the Mini a better weapon. If you are going to use it for target shooting and want to drive tacks with it or varmint hunting a 3x9 scope would be a good choice. Of course you could go all out and get a barrel harmonizer for it and a top of a line scope if you really want to make it accurate.

Mine, I use for self defense/tactical (when I am out in the country) so I have a red dot scope. It has no magnification, but a good red dot will allow quick acquisition and you keep both eyes open, which is good for situational awareness in the tactical discipline. I accessorized my mini to the extent that it doesn't look like a Mini 14. I put a stock on it with a pistol grip, a forward vertical grip and a bipod. I can hit center mass with it at 200 yards no problem.

It is a good weapon, hope you enjoy it

I have the synthetic Black Ranch flavor. My first rifle. It came with an ATI Strikeforce stock and a forward grip too.
This one without the scope :)

Picked up a Glock 30 (.45 compact) from an Uncle. Spent some time at the range this weekend. Haven't owned a gun for about 10 years. Still love it just as much as I did then. Looking forward to adding to the collection. H&K P30 in my future and probably a .22 as well.

 Did Santa come early this year?
I hope you left him some good cookies!:)

Umm, yes! The .40 is actually the wife's first pistol, and the XDM is my first Springfield XD, and the SIG 556 is my first one of those, the pistols are intended to be our carry guns. The fullsize XDM is not as hard to conceal as people seem to think. The most important part of concealment is A) Not acting like you are carrying anything, and B) no visual signature of the weapon. I used to know a guy who frequently carried a Desert Eagle .50AE, all he concealed it under was a light vest or sport coat in a shoulder rig, he wasn't a large man either, actually something less than 5'-10" and 170 lbs maybe.

I own one and I think that's "not so smart". The DE50 has such a big blast that if you use it in a self defense situation, you'll likely be deafened. So will the person on the other end, but I think it is overkill. Plus the sucker is really heavy to carry around all day. Personally I think it's best purpose is as a show off piece (just being honest). All the kids know it from the video game shooters and it's the most often used gun in Hollywood films due to it's size. I would think a .45 is the biggest practical carry which does the job nicely IMHO. Of note is that I also have a tiny .22lr that came with a buckle holder...it's so small they say the front sight nub is supposed to be used to hook into someone's nose. And yes...that is a show off piece too.

I agree the DE50 is not really a suitable Self Defense firearm for another reason: recoil. My preference has always been .45acp for a SD sidearm follow up shots can be made rapidly and accurately without have to fight the heavy recoil. My wife will be carrying the XD .40 compact, as she handles the recoil of it better than my .45acp.

Agreed. DE50 as a carry weapon is ridiculous. If one had to use it in a SD situation, where's that bullet going to stop? Maybe in the 4 year old, sitting in front of a TV 4 blocks away...

I've been eye-balling a Springfield compact 45. Small, light, easy to handle, quick to point and follow up. And rounds are available that will stop in the first thing they hit.

Ooooh... Christmas is coming!

Dear Santa...

As a side note I just saw a segment of the movie "Snatch" the other night for the first time and one of the guys shot something like 8-10 rounds at a time, at times one-handed (and even sideways!) using a DE50. Gotta love Hollywood. LOL

I have a slightly modified Mini-14 Tactical. It's an OK rifle, but not as nice as a Colt AR-15, which are illegal in my state. It's kind of tempermental about accepting 3rd party 20-round mags...the slide needs to be locked back. I had a red dot scope on it for a while, but didn't really care for it.
