So I'm getting my patriot mini in the mail soon and want ask an epoxy opinion. I have new not opened aeropoxy, rocket poxy, and the BSI stuff in 5,15,30 minute sets. I also have wood glue. I was thinking i could get away with using the BSI epoxy, but then I thought about what H would do... You guys think it woulf hurt to use rocket or aero? Thanks!

I stay away from 5 min and only use 15min when the joint isn't critical. lots of people use 5 and 15 with good results but they aren't as strong. if I was building another mini right now, I would use 30 minute on the insides and rocketpoxy for fillets.

Save the weight and use the epoxy only for the external fillets, as this is a paper and wood rocket wood glue is still stronger than the fin airframe ttw joint. On a rocket like this Titebond Trim and Molding Glue would be the ideal product for fillets. Don't be surprised at the responses you get to this particular issue.

John Coker did a great test on the strength of different adhesives. Wood glue (e.g. Titebond) holds surprisingly well - as good if not better than epoxy in some circumstances, including wood/wood and wood/cardboard. If I find the link I'll post it.

Thanks for the repsonses. This is my first HPR capable rocket of this size. I'll defintely be doing internal fillets as well.... Ever since I learned how to do them I cant help myself.

I assumed this was fiberglass, if its paper and wood, yellow wood glue for internals.

I got the regular one on sale, the fiberglass one will be added soon though. I was thinking of over constructing the rocket haha...

Here's the link to which I referred. It's only epoxy and not wood glue, which isn't how I remembered it.

The moral of that story is that Bob Smith 5 minute has a time and a place, but if you want real hold you need to choose something else.

with cardboard and wood, as long as your joint is tight, you will get a VERY strong joint with wood glue. likely stronger than epoxy. also, if using epoxy, a slow cure will have more time to soak into the wood and cardboard making a stronger bond than a quick cure.
