How many of you have had successful flights with CTI's F240 Vmax motor? What kit did you use? I saw my first one this past weekend in a Painkiller Micro kit and it was enough to convince me to try and build something that'll survive that motor, unfortunately it seems Blastcap Rocketry is no more making the Painkiller series unavailable. I was hoping to find a small & light kit I could stuff this into, I have plenty of heavy 29mm-mount rockets that would probably take this but that's not the effect I'd like. :)

Any advice for which kits to use with this motor?

I fly my Estes Big Daddy on it all the time, 4oz of nose weight, light ply CRs, stock balsa fins, rail buttons, Kevlar thread shock cord.
Routinely gets 900ft in a big hurry! Real tough to get the whole flight on video when the rocket disappears in .3 secs!

The Madcow Mini Frenzy (FG) is a good kit for the F240; probably any of the Madcow Minis would be fun.

Don't fly one in a Blue Ninja unless you want to remove most of all four fins. An E75 is great in that, though.

I've flown a Blackhawk 24 on it. It really does disappear. There was a flash of light, a little smoke, and no one saw it again until the tracker led us to it. The rocket fared fine, no damage at all.

I've flown my Rocketry Warehouse Formula 38 on one. Bang! Zoom! It teleported off the pad, went to about 1700'. Very cool!

Flew my first F240 in a Wildman Sport. Forgot to add some BP, so the nosecone popped but no chute. Fell from 1000 feet. I loved it so much, I bought another, reloaded, with extra BP and did it again.

Wow. Are the fins reinforced at all? Are they attached with wood glue?

Thanks for all the other recommendations as well, I'll check those out.

Because I built my G-Force stock ( :bangpan: ), the only CTI case that will fit in it is a 1G. So even though it is not rated for F motors, I launched it once on the F240. It had plenty of thrust to get off the pad, and went up about 500'. Chute opened, and successful recovery right next to the pad.

Peter, Not reinforced at all, and yes wood glue holds them on no problem. Only problem I have had with them is once it was in the back of my truck and another rocket fell on it and broke a fin, I have since glued it back together and flown it again, because its a short fat rocket it has a ton of drag, along with the 4oz in the nose it weighs in at 1.12lbs with that motor. So although pretty fast, its not as fast as a Vmax should be. I put a Jolly logic altimeter in it once and it indicated 27Gs at 396ft/s.

John, The F240 is a 3 grain 24mm, are you thinking about the 29mm 1 grain F120?

Oops! Busted!

Still sounds like a fun flight for a G-force though! Quick, almost humorous lob. Probably got a good look at the motor though. Would love to see a vid of that.

Maybe I'll do it again. As long as the RSO doesn't yell, "You can't put an F in there!"

WildChild....stock, out of the box. Fiberglass, built & painted weighs alb.

Some 10 minute epoxy & paint of your choice.

Add F-240 = about 1200-1400ft with a quickness! Easy to find.

Heh heh. Well based on your experience and the high average thrust of that motor, it sounds to be a safe motor for that model. F240 would be no issue at all!

Jim -- nice pics!

I've flown the Painkiller Micro on an F240 - loads of fun! Haven't tried F240 in anything else yet. I've got a couple BaddAzz rockets that also have 24mm MMT that might be good candidates as well, but they are also OOP.
