I've searched many times, using many search strings, for a scale drawing of the Phoenix missile. And I've had Zero luck.

Does anyone know where I can find one? How accurate is the Estes Phoenix? Or the MadCow Phoenix?

I'm building a (hopefully) scale, heavy walled, 29mm MMT, 2.64" Phoenix. I'm going to be looking at DD and capable of I200 flights. I just need reliable scale data to get it right.

use the internet wayback machine to look at Jim Ball's scale site...he had Phoenix drawings. I can't give you a link because our work admins block the wayback website (google internet archive)

Tried the way back machine. It's showing Jim Balls as part of rocketry online. I need the proper I'll it seems if the wayback is going to be able to show it.

I can get access to the Jim Ball site on archive.org but many of the gifs/files are not saved at that location and are unavailable.

Enter "jim ball scale data" into a search engine, I used one called Google.

Click the first link returned, for the Northern Virginia Association of Rocketry.

Click on the link "Jim Ball's Scale Library of Missile Data"

Find AIM-54A data about a third of the way down the page.

Please send me one unopened package Estes E16-4. PM me for shipping info.

The real loss on the Jim Ball AIM-54 data is if you scroll down the page past the first Phoenix reference there is a link to another section on the AIM-54C which had the actual Raytheon Blueprints that Bob Kunz requested via the Freedom of Information Act. The first section on the home page has a fair .gif with dimensions.

We do indeed have a winner! Beyond awesome. Hours of searching led me to only insanity. Time to scale up a nice Phoenix. I'll share the files here when I have it done.

I've also noticed a "different" Little John on display at the Space and Rocket Center. The fins are different and resemble the aft fins of the Phoenix. I'm taking a tape measure with me next time I go. I'll need to scale it out. I'll post a picture and a RockSim file when I do.

Thanks again everyone. The help was phenomenal.

[best James Earl Jones voice]: " Impressive. Most impressive."

That's some strong Google-fu rocketguy !

I have my moments :D It was amazingly difficult to find the yellowjacket reference!!! Everybody had been diligent to update the links on their webpages...finally found a thread on TRF about "Jim Ball Closing" and the old link was there.

Kruegon...please post a build thread with lots of pics!! Good luck with the build...the Phoenix has a special place in my heart because I grew up in Tucson, and heard about the Hughes plant all the time.

Well I have found one missing dimension. The height of the forward fin at the front. I suppose I could assume the drawing is true scale and measure. But that's just be a guess at best.

If i am reading one of the .gifs correctly from Jim Balls Scale Data the forward fins leading edge is 3.90" tall on the actual missle. Trailing edge is 10.056" , Root Edge is 38.945".

I haven't broken down the actual schematic yet. Just the scale drawing.
