I seldom post here, and I'm a vendor, and those who know the story know why. But several things here in this thread are interesting and I don't know the full story pertaining to Cheri BUT.......

The trf dogpile has finally caused some real problems. Not really a surprise. If enough misguided people are beat into a frenzy it gets ugly.

After having threads, posts pulled and childish demerit BS it became apparent that it wasn't worth posting what I wanted to say without fear of peeing in a mod's soup again cuz of a grudge.

We all know the "my cousin's, friends, sisters, brother in law........" answer which brings on many, many problems with no way to counter misinformation without getting demerits.

This forum has simply chosen to be a forum of babble with no substance because debate, and especially heated and passioned debate is strictly forbidden. Without the ability to aggressively post a rebuttal without rebuke from the mods there is no reason to address any point here.

Basically, the forum has gelded itself. Ingenuity abounds but can't be disussed here for fear of breaking the 30 or 40 golden rules.

And a quote...................

"I know no one will believe this, but I actually like that a place like N3 exists for the less modest rocketeer that would rather break a beer bottle over the head of the next guy rather than buy it for him. (j/k guys - there's comradery over there too.) "

You are fortunate to have said beer bottle, had it been wine bottle we would have done a trf dogpile and got throw out of here. We don't do WINE at N3rd........but the speakeasy is always open where prohibition is banned. :D And the moderator disappeared for two weeks some time ago and we never noticed. Funny how that works. :)

Seems like what I feared is coming true...

Wonder if I'll get some of the childish demerits.

TRF is alive and well. We have tons of posts on rocketry. We have build threads and funny comments made all the time. This a tempest in a teapot mostly created by those who cannot and wil not follow the guidelines that make this one of the biggest rocketry sites on the net. We wiil move forward in a way that includes those who enjoy a safe polite place to talk rockets.
Heated and passionate debate is welcome here as long as it does not involve belittling others and is conducted in a polite way. It's odd how much you can pick up from folks when they are not calling names or being bullies. Much of what some might call impassioned debate could be classified as yet more mindless aggression in yet another cyber sewer. Good luck with that.

If it's so bad why dont you just stop posting? If you dont want childish demerits why not go do a build thread or talk about one of your designs? Why are you wasting your time with this? Why not go offer advice to a new person or encourage one of the veterans or post some pictures of one of your launches? Why not help build the hobby instead of just posting this stuff ? I am willing to bet nobody held a gun to your head forcing you to post here so if it's that bad stop posturing for the crowd and go somewhere you feel more comfortable.

Y'know - I'm not a particularly religeous guy, but it seems that the world would be a lot better if we all just observed the golden rule - in modern terms, treat others the way you would like them to treat you!

Or said in another equally good way, "treat others how they want to be treated."

NO! They're NOT equally good. Can't you see the difference between those two statements? One is a SELF-applied limit on behavior, the other allows a single person to apply limits to EVERYONE that they come into contact with.

Geez, I take a hiatus from this place and look what happens.......

Lawyer speak? I sure missed something grand.

And what a shame too....

My lack of participation here in the last year or so has little to do with all the drama that is routinely popping up, but that drama is certainly there.

Just to address some ridiculous statement I read earlier in this thread, at least from a personal perspective:

What's my "post count?" 4000+? Whatever it is, I'm sure that most of them were on topic and/or relevant, and not just BS fluff. (most means more than 50%, right? ;) )

While I don't think the forum would die without vendors, I don't think you are giving them enough credit. They are some of the biggest contributors to the forum, and they are also some of the people most devoted to rocketry. Just look at Jim Flis. His post count is the unit by which all other post counts are measured! (for example, I have about 2 deciFlis posts.) If he was only here to sell stuff, don't you think we would have gotten sick of him a long time ago?

Point taken on the giving them enough credit comment. Most of them are hard working rocket hobbiest as well as vendors. Post count numbers mean little to nothing to me. It's the quality of the posts that matter. Jim has filled this forum with tons of usful information and humor. I cannot recall a single instance where he has gone on or join an attack on another member/vendor. His gentlemanly (I think I just made a new word) manner of conducting himself is the unit by which we should all be measured.

As I have said before, I like it here on TRF. If I want the drama and debate, I'll go to the other forums.

All the vendors have an equal chance to advertise as much as they want here. And it's never obsessive and they normally don't bash other vendors.

Ditto

This is not meant to stir up anything, but:

Re: Sheri If I recall correctly, didn't she post here first saying how upset she was over the whole issue. That's just inviting trouble. I can relate a similar personal experience. I posted a thread about how someone stole some rockets out of my garage. I was upset. Some of the posts, though, were not very supportive, in fact, they could have been taken offensively. Point is, I went in looking for reaction, and I got it, albeit not all what I wanted.

Didn't Sheri do the same? People reacted and now look at the mess this has caused. Sounds like inciting a riot to me. Free speech, or freedom, for that matter does not mean absolutefreedom. There will always be limits.

It will come down to this: Follow the rules, or don't post. It's really very simple and doesn't have to be so stinkin' complicated.

I have to say that I find it amazing that this conversation has gone on as long as it has. No, I'm not talking about the site owners nuking the thread. I'm all but laughing that so many people care so much about a simple hobby portal. And it's all over childish behavior carried out by people who should know better at what might be construed as the behest of a single poster.

Yeah, I got a bunch of opinions on the whole mess. However I figure if I don't care about them, why would anybody else?

Good lord folks, give it a freaking rest. And that goes for Troy and Fred too.

I'm gonna go back to cleaning my basement now.

Personally I think that alot of the issue is due to a basic misunderstanding or reading into what others write or question they ask. The other part of the issue is because of ( and I feel guilty of it as well) thouse with a limited knowledge in an area answer a question wrongly or with missing information. This angers thouse who have an expertese in the area due to posable safty hazards and or just plan stupity.

I'm no expert but we are all a giant family good and bad and like all families we from time to time need a good smack on the bottems and told to behave.

I don't see the behavior and problems on other forums that I belong too as much as I see it on TRF. It's fine to argue, but do it peacefully, be open to suggestions and criticism if that's what you are looking for. It's made to be beneficial that we all learn, and we are all wrong at some points. Don't go attacking someone for being wrong as it could've been a mistype or they were misinformed. If you don't like the rules, there's the door, there's other forums out there if you don't like TRF, or go and spend your hard earned money to go and make your own forum.

You are referring to my post. I did leave out a single certified motor, but my post that the other motors were decertified was not answered wrongly or with missing information. There had been no questions on whether those motors could be used or not, therefore there was no need to state anything about the OOP motor program. The question was about the abbreviation "OPP" itself.

It is best for others to just add the pertinent information they want others to see and leave emotion and opinions out of a reply. When they post an emotional opinion, it is seldom a good thing.

This pretty much sums up my philosophy of life (the freedom thing is part and parcel of this, after all).

Ooooh, but what if that "other person" is one of those that rokitflite was talking about??????? :D:D:D

Some might enjoy that though...:surprised:

1 demerit for making me wait yet another year to build an Anubis rocket.

If I could have released them by now, I would have. My life has been a living hell the last year and a half. Hopefully, if things start looking better, sometime soon. Right now, they don't look too good at all. As in losing the house not too good.

A few people have said that he forum is declining or "in a funk." I think part of the problem is that we have fewer new members joining than in the past. The biggest reason (besides the economy and government regulation) is probably that the forum does not show up in Google at all. Hopefully, once the move to a real server is complete, the server will be able to handle Google's indexing.

A good point :)

...It reminds of when i worked with dysfunctional children except they had good reason to be the way they were.
If people really want to get this board to where it should be heres some suggestions you can do personally at no cost and very little trouble,
!.) Respect the rules. Its easy dont talk sex politics or religion. Dont use or allude to profanity. Practise with your kids and see how much fun it can be.
2.) respect other posters and talk with respect to them.
3.) use PM's if you have a problem and dont don the sack cloth and ashes if you have a problem and wail for all to see.
4.) Be understanding if a small volounteer group makes the odd error in your eyes ans weigh that against the benefits of participation.
5.) Talk about rockets and rocketry related topics. Encourage one another and be kind....
Amen Fred.
