Does anyone know where i can buy this kit?? i cant seem to find it, but i think it would make a great gift for a close friend of mine.

There's an excellent set of plans for a two staged FB in the current NAR Member Guidebook... I know... That doesn't help...much

They come up on ebay from time to time. That's the only place I've seen them in the wild.

Maybe we need to tell him, that this particular kit from Estes is no longer in production: "OOP" as we say. So, very doubtful to find one in a retail type store.

And, as stated, they do form time to time, appear on Ebay and the like, from people who've horded a few..

Fat Boys are an easy scratch build. Most hobby shops and online retailers that carry rocketry items often have the nose cone in stock(PNC-80BB).

Plans, fin patterns, and decal scan can be found here...
Fat Boy plans on YORP

Here's a couple sources for the nose....

Data is available at:
https://www.rocketryforum.com/showthread.php?t=2175
Scroll down through the first post, through all the hot air, and click on the attachment (if you don't have EXCEL let me know and I'll get you the data in another form). Open the file "fingeom" and click on the second tab (the first tab has Estes Alpha fin measurements).

Data is in plain mathematical terms (not rocsim-ese)

I know its OOP, and i saw those plans.. im not really sure where to find all the seperate parts, and im not sure if its worth trying to hunt down each part either, i wasnt sure if theres an online store or something that still carries some OOP estes model kits.

Uncle Mike's Rocket Shack had come across a goodly supply of them well after they were OOP and was offering them for a while, but it appears as though he's sold out of them now. They aren't listed anymore.

If you can deal with a balsa cone, every part you need to clone one can be found at....

https://www.balsamachining.com

or

https://www.semroc.com/Store/Scripts/default.asp

One stop shopping....;)

nahh its not worth buying each part seperately its so much more expensive.

Not really. Not after you consider you'll be paying an inflated price(on ebay or elsewhere) because of the mere fact it's OOP. Plus he'll have some leftover goodies such as tubes, lugs, balsa, etc. to use on his next project.

davidrs,

If you want to buy the parts, I will dig around my piles of old stuff and find a free set of decals (or were they peel-n-stick? I don't remember) for you.

PM me--

Depending upon where you live,I might be in a position to sell one or two Fatboy kits, at non inflated prices. I would have to investigate shipping from Alberta Canada, but we might be able to work out some kind of deal. PM me and I will see how many I have.

im in newjersey, USA and what does PM mean? personal message? im new on this forum

PM means Private Message, or Personal Message that is correct. Did you receive my response to your earlier enquiry?

Saw 4 Fatboys last week on the shelf at a local hobby store for $14.99 each, so keep looking, they are still around.

I couldn't take it anymore... Seeing this thread everytime I logged on the forum... I simply broke down. I only recently lost my favorite 24mm Fat Boy. I too, haven't seen a FB locally, so I ordered one from SigmaRockets (see link above)... easy enough.

I saw a two staged Fat Boy awhile back, and thought that would be a great project. When I saw the plans in the recent NAR Member Guide Book... well... then this thread popped up... so. here we go. I almost could have built it from scratch... but, I realised that I didn't have a proper nose cone. Buying the kit will simply make things easier (ie: centering ring measurements for duplication...etc).

Wish me luck... should I post construction updates and pictures and stuff...???

If you "left-click" on a person's name, a drop down menu will appear. There you will find a selection for Send ~ a Private Message. People use these for letting sellers know that they are interested in purchasing item that they list in the Yard Sale forum, for example. You can set preferences about such stuff in the User CP (Control Panel).

By my math that's $20.67 before shipping. But the normal 18mm motor mount won't bring the price down much and you want to fly it with a 24mm mount anyway.

I went back and checked my records and I have bought 3 Fatboys off Ebay:

$11.99 in 10/07 RIP 02/08.
$16.40 in 04/08.
$15.51 in 04/08.

Shipping has been around $7 except for the $16.40 buy which was a combined purchase and came to a little over $3 for the Fatboy's contribution.

As always, smart ebaying is required and YMMV. :)

The OP said:

I was just took a few minutes to show him where they could be found all in one place.

Also, your math is wrong.

Is that a serious question?

Of course! :D

That's funny... I'll admit that it was a stupid question, knowing how the guys are here on the forum...

The thing is... I guess I was trying to convince myself to slow down and enjoy the build. The ways things go around here, I pretty much have to schedule time for things like this...

Thanks for reminding me... so to speak...!!!

Yes it is, but ebay was still cheaper than $18.21.
