I miss seeing the Northern Lights. Back up in Anchorage it was part of the nightly weather report, on whether they'd occur or not. Then we'd have a telephone chain going for who'd see them first.
Even remember one morning, during mission launch, that we got to one side of the flight line and cars were lined up stopped, just to watch them; they were bright as anything.
Thanks for sharing and bringing those memories back!
Gorgeous photo, Fred.
We see the aurora once every few years here in Chicago, but, with as far south as we are, and all the light pollution from the city, we almost never see it that vibrantly.
Man, that's eerie... I bet it just makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
Ya Im part of a tour operation that features northern lights viewing so Im luck that way . Purple is a real nice colour i think. Sounds like a good trip for you and your brotherVery nice Fred !! My brother and myself just got back from camping/trout fishing. We walked out to the lake and saw some beauty Northerns ,all green and purple it was very nice to see them again as we do every autumn. The bonus was being on the lake shore and no light pollution to spoil it....although there was this annoying fox that kept climbing on my truck.Perhaps he wanted a better view of the light show for himself.
