Starting to build and I am going to try some new things on this rocket. Most of them will be considered overkill, but why not learn on a $60 rocket. I already have a PML HAMR for motor retention, purchased a 10 inch payload section with 6 inch coupler for dual deploy and coupler will be used to make an avionics bay. Have decide on the PML Co-Pilot V2.0 for electronics. Have not decided on what to use for tracking as this is a fairly minimum diameter rocket that I want to be able to fly on anything from a G to a J.
Questions:
1. I want to fiberglass the airframe, what weight and how many ply's would you suggest? I was thinking 2 layers of 4oz. with one layer for for TTT?
2. Is West Systems really that much better than U.S. Composites resin?
3. I peeled the glassine off of the body tubes, and under the sustainer body tube section there are relatively large body tube spirals, around 1/16" wide, do I need to fill these to to get a smooth finish before fiberglassing?
Any input is useful, like I said most these modifications are overkill, but I need to learn sometime.
