Well, I got some BT70 in the other day and there was a posting about building a 24mm upscale of the Deuce and I have this Crayon Balsa Nose Cone from my Secret Santa this year so I was thinking........

Deuce's Crayon?????

Yes, that is my Indian Corn rocket next to it. My first time attempt at something different.

The corn rocket is cool. I was going to say that I'm surprised micromeister didn't do that first, but I would not bet against him having one.:rotflol:

That corn rocket looks like something I'd put butter and salt on and eat with my thanksgiving turkey. :D
Did you hollow out the cob to fit a BT or is it fake corn?
That is a pretty awesome rocket.

It is a foam Indian Corn from Hobby Lobby. I hollowed it and the center is basically a Estes HiFlier inside it. Still need some tweeking with a bit of mose weight to straighten it out.

I know you're from Minnesota, but moose weight is too much. C motor will never lift it...:D

Now you need to up scale the corn rocket so it can fly on a sparkie! Call it Pop Corn!

Hope that ain't too "corny"

Yes! Moose weight would be a bit much!!!

Pop Corn! Like it! The idea for the little came from Troj and his "Corn Maiden".

Here is a picture of a future bigger Corn rocket. :surprised:

So......Do you think 3/16th thick Balsa stock is thick enough and strong enough for the fins if I use the FLIS template for the Deuce fins for a BT70?

I found the post....Seems like 3/16" thick balsa should be fine for the BT70 Upscale.

Yep, 3/16" is a good choice. That's what I used for my 24mm upscale and it is of sufficient strength as well as *looking* right in that scale...

Well, Between work and the kids I have a good start on the Duece 24mm Crayon.

I do want to sking the fins for strength though!

Well, I have been busy and trying to work on rockets when time permits. Here is where I am at with the 24mm Deuce Crayon. Hopefully I will have it completed soon!

So I'm wondering where that nose cone came from.

I made a bunch of crayon cones a few years back and never heard another thing about them.

Could it be...???

:surprised:Well........My Crayon come came from.....................

Secret Santa!:D:surprised:

and Santa lives in Washington State! At least that was where it was post marked.

It is also written on the bottom BT-70. I tried taking a picture of it but it was too faint. It is scratched in.

And then you will need to launch it using 2 G76G motors!:D

Green rocket gotta have green flames!;)

Yeah! That would be cool! But I guess that will have to wait till the next upscale build since this one is 24mm and not 29mm.

:eek:Opps! Some technical problems. I went and masked off by the fins and BT to add some fillets and went to remove the tape and peeled off my paper skin I had placed on the fins!:cry:

Well, The crayon has some paint on it now! Just have to the finishing details!

By the way, does anyone (Flis maybe) know where the CP would be on a 24mm upscale of the Duece? Could someone Sim it for me? I don't have Rocksims.

Thanks!

sweet!

I don't know the CP, but as long as you scaled everything equally, shouldn't the CP be in exactly the same *relative* location as the 18mm version?

Because while the dimensions are readily scalable, mass does not scale quite so nicely. I would think that motors in particular do not increase in size and mass at the same rate.

Thanks! I am pretty proud of it! I was going to fly it in June at our launch at MAple Island but weather turned it into a club build to work on the Maven.

I really wanted get/make some decals for it to make it look more like a Crayon. I really wasn't happy with the last decals I printed off from Loc for my Lil Nuke. The decal paper was rough and clouldy and the ink came off it easily. But I guess that is what you get when all you have is an ink jet not laser.

Well, I git decals coming! Inflight rocketry is going to make me a set to go with the Crayon Deuce!!!! YEAH!!!

The price is just right, too!!!:D

Sandman

These are the cones you made for me a few years ago. I still have seven of these very nicley turned cones left, just haven't gotten around to doing anything with them. To many rockets not enough time.;)
