I got my level 1 junior cert today at the rocstock launch. There was no wind... It was great! It went 1880 feet. I used the Pro38 I205-8 (3 grain) motor. The flame was half the length of the rocket (a 3 ft flame!!!)
The flight was perfect. My friend also jr certed on a 2 grain motor.
I then flew my PML pit bull on the 3 grain smokey sam. It went about half a mile!!!
I have great launch pics I will post later...

Very nice :D

Altimeter, or is that the simmed altitude?

Gratz on your cert Ghost! Can't wait to see pics of it.

Congratulations on your JR L1! :D

I'd love to see some pictures. Who is your mentor?

Pictures are here!!!
The first is of me with my L1 rocket, Shooter, before the flight. The second picture is LIFTOFF!!!! I love Pro38 3 grain I205's :D The third flight is my friend's cert flight, on a Pro38 2 grain H153. The last pic is of my 2.5 inch pit bull (went about 1/2 a mile high) on a Pro38 3 grain I212

I LOVE HIGH POWER!!! Now I just need a job :surprised:

Congratulations on your JR L1! :D

I actually had no mentor. I was my own mentor. :D The rocket was completely scratch built from my own design. I did steal the paint scheme from the movie Shooter, however. :p

Just so you know, technically, Jr L1 requires a full L1 or above "mentor" who would build the motor and such - it does not count as a full L1.

Then I guess that means my mentor was Rick Dickinson. I thought you meant "mentor" as in they approve help you decide which rocket to use, they keep track of your progress on the rocket, etc.

CONGRATS!! Finally going for mine in one week!!

So, did Rick sign for you, and was the altimeter used for a passive reading on the apogee ...or was it used to eject parachutes?

Just curious, as the subject seems to have created quite a debate here locally.

Rick signed for it.

The altimeter was just for reading... No deployment

Congrats.

Keep it up, its expensive but worth it.

thanks :)

I got the customary welcome...
"welcome to HPR. Now open your wallet" :D

Hahah
Sage advice....and the best advice you will get..

Until your Level 2, whereupon it applies even more.

I was the official person "on the hook" for the flight, as well as being his cert witness.

After inspecting his rocket, I had no worries about letting him fly; he might need a little help in the "cutting tube ends square", "tapering fin edges", and "avoiding epoxy drips" departments, but that's all strictly cosmetic. Structuraly, the build was well-done, and he seemed to know what he was talking about when I quizzed him during the pre-flight inspection. The rocket was clearly stable, and his Junior cert flight was successful.

He used motor ejection; the altimeter was strictly "along for the ride". After his cert flight, we briefly discussed dual deployment, and I explained that, if he built a rocket to do dual deploy (or other electronic ejection), that he'd need to have a certified adult (where can I go to get certified as an adult?) fly his rocket, rather than doing it himself.

Congratulations, again!

Thanks guys :)
Now do any of you know where they allow child labor in CA (I need some money for HPR)? :p

Pulled all the fat from this post as being somewhat insulting somewhat political. If I cut out a congrats, I'm sorry. But, congrats on your level 1.
