I get to go see Rush tomorrow night. (how's that for off topic) :D

My wife bought tickets for my Father's Day present. Seeing as I like the drums, this is going to be awesome!!!!!!

Lucky. My dad is a big fan of them and I like them too. I've never seen them in concert, but I'm sure it will be great.

Tell your wife that officially makes her a "GOOD WOMAN". Good job catching her.

Rush is AMAZING live! I've seen them twice, and they are still two of the best concerts I've ever seen! (Pink Floyd is still number one, though)

I watched Rush open up for Blue Oyster Cult many years ago when BOC was making a ton of money off of "Don't Fear the Reaper" and Rush had released the "All the World's a Stage" album. It was so early in Rush's career that many people in the audience really didn't know who they were.

After Rush had come out and blew everyone away, Blue Oyster Cult was just about booed off the stage when they started playing. People were hollering for Rush to come back on and for BOC to get the heck out of there.

They were truly awesome in concert and it'll be one I'll never forget.

I was fortunate enough to see them from a box seat in the Staple center in LA a few years ago. It was an amazing concert. I hope your experience turns out to be great also.
Hope to fly some rockets with you soon.

Andrew, I saw Rush and BOC during Mardi Gras back in '76, IIRC. I remember their intro was the music from 2112; I still get goosebumps thinking about it  . Needless to say it was very loud and energetic. I believe I paid $6.50/ticket; I still have the stub.

Well I didn't get tickets, but my wife did get me the new Rush CD for Father's Day. That's funny about Blue Oyster Cult because one of the many times I saw Rush, BOC was opening up for them! I believe it was the Power Windows Tour around 1986.

My brother just saw them in Florida this past weekend and said the show rocked, no opener and they did just under 3 hours, including a lot of material from the new CD. Don't know yet if I'm gonna get a chance to see this tour.

Funny thing about Rush is they kind of crept up on me...in the late 70s I worked at a major record chain store (that would be Vinyl, kids) and many of my friends liked them, each time they would come to town I would get comp tickets and three times I went and left after two or three songs or so thinking "I don't get it"..Geddy was still very shrieky and our local Civic Center was acoustically awful putting it politely...somewhere around A Farewell to Kings I did get it maybe because learning to play songs like Xanadu and Cygnus on guitar challenged me more than learning songs by the Cars or other "hook centered" groups.
Now, I've seen them (and paid) about 8 times and appreciate everything about them...Geddy's voice has mellowed and lowered with maturity, the lyrics by Mr. Peart speak on the human condition quite succinctly and musically they are individually and collectively amazing...If you've never seen one of their shows, they are multimedia spectacles from beginning to end...The new album sounds very good, its mature and maintains the trademark time signature shifts, musical lushness and insightful lyrics that I've come to expect...I've also gotten used to the earlier material and now own about 85% of their catalog...Got tickets to see them at Madison Square Garden 9/17 which I'm looking forward to however it looks unlikely that I will be able to use my center balcony tickets to the SPAC date on 6/30.....

I have tickets for July 8 in New Jersey with my brothers and some old friends and tickets up here in Ct. for the 9th w/ a friend from work. I am really excited!

Also, if you guys like Rush you'll like the R30, and the Rush in Rio DVD's. Rush in Rio is still my favorite!

"Trees" is my favorite Rush song.

It's kinda cool to share the meaning of that song with other oldies rock fans that have listened to the song all of their lives but never thought about what the lyrics meant.

The Trees:

Words by Neil Peart, music by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson

There is unrest in the forest
There is trouble with the trees
For the maples want more sunligh
And the oaks ignore their pleas

The trouble with the maples
(and theyre quite convinced theyre right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light
But the oaks cant help their feelings
If they like the way theyre made
And they wonder why the maples
Cant be happy in their shade?

There is trouble in the forest
And the creatures all have fled
As the maples scream `oppression!`
And the oaks, just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights
the oaks are just too greedy
We will make them give us light
Now theres no more oak oppression
For they passed a noble law
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet,
Axe,
And saw ...

The lyrics are very good, but I found this on song facts:

Though it seems to be steeped in meaning, according to lyricist/drummer Neil Peart, there is no meaning at all in this song. When asked in the April/May 1980 Modern Drummer magazine about whether there is a message to this song, Peart said, "No. It was just a flash. I was working on an entirely different thing when I saw a cartoon picture of these trees carrying on like fools. I thought, 'What if trees acted like people?' So I saw it as a cartoon really, and wrote it that way. I think that's the image that it conjures up to a listener or a reader. A very simple statement."

Cool that a drummer can write song lyrics..

BTW, the concert was excellent!!!!!

Awesome! Just got their latest CD when I was in CA..Great stuff! They sound just as I remember them when I was rocking out to them in high school! :D Gotta see if they have a tour date near here- not that I can afford to go- just to torture myself I guess! :p

the whole family wants to go so now it looks like we're going to an August show in northern CA. what the heck, it'll only cost a couple K motors, and the memories last for ... uhh... a while.

OK - what Rush song is stuck in your head? today my son & I played Passage To Bangkok & Something For Nothing on guitar. but we both agree: Between The Wheels is stuck in our heads. And I gotta go play Grand Designs... or maybe Mission ...

The professor rocks!

-These guys are true muscians, that's for certain.
First Rush show: Grace under pressure tour, 1984, the "Checkerdome", 16 years old & ready to rock!

Man that is awesome! That second YYZ clip was some fantastic CGI work there!!  And those 'cross over' moves Niel does in one part..man...if I tried that I would break my arms or bean myself silly! :p

Too bad I missed them when they had their one and only show in Georgia on the 13th :( Oh well, schnizit happens...

-My favorite song on the new album is "Armor & Sword"
For some reason, I just can't listen to this song enough!
