I have to share this, as I'm full to bursting with excitement!!
As some of you know, I work with an entertainment company, Precinct 13 Entertainment, that is involved with the creation of makeup effects, animatronics and visual effects for film and television. The really strange thing is that the studio is sitting next to a soybean field in a small town outside of Mansfield, Ohio. We have been insanely busy for nearly two years working on films that have been based out of L.A.
But in between, and during those other projects, our little group has been working on an entirely independent project, financed entirely by local investors. First week of shooting was in October of 2005, then months of effects creation while other projects were being done, then 3 hectic weeks of full blown production last July. From August until March 15th was editing and the creation of 260 visual effects shots. Then Bob, the director, spent the last month and a half in L.A. doing ADR, sound mixing, and just last week was the final color timing.
Today, the friendly FedEx man brought us the best package EVUH!
The first DVD copy of the completed film. having been so closely involved with it for so long, and seeing it only in bits and pieces, I didn't know exactly what to expect.
It absolutely ROCKED! It's a case of where the whole exceeds the sum of the pieces. I felt like a proud father. Or maybe an uncle... or brother-in-law. Something. Think of that classic Estes Saturn V. You put everything into it and when you stand back you say to yourself, "By cracky, I actually made myself a museum quality rocket!"
If you liked "Dawn of the Dead", "Evil Dead" or "Re-Animator", you'll love this film. I really am not a horror film fan. A couple of my favorite films are "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Moulin Rouge", but I loved this.
Check out the website for the film at The Rage and click on the trailer link for a trailer for the film. It's not for the squeamish, and the trailer pretty much lays it all out on the line. Don't forget to look for it when it comes out.... don't know when, it's now time for getting copies to the distribution companies that are interested.
