Rougepink - Has Estes thought of having design contest again? This would be great way obtain quality designs for cheap. There are a lot of guys and gals here that would happily participate and it would give a greater opportunity to the Rocket Building community

Here's a thought...

Maybe have a contest of sorts but do it via a "kit". Basically a bunch of raw parts and anything built MUST use the ONLY the parts in the kit. It would be a great way to get a COTS kit that could be worked into the existing stock of Estes parts.

The once the kit is done, you could have a contest for "grade school" kids to design the color scheme and decals. On the website there would be a template that kids could print out and color in, or "computer enhance" etc.

Sort of a participatory build via long distance.

I am game for that.

And many of these people will in turn try to sue Estes when they see a design that looks similar to something they sent in. Or if their design is used and they don't feel they have received enough money.

Just my .02 but I think it would be even better to do completely original designs that do not use currently available components. If the new designs are simply current parts mixed up we will never get any truly new designs.

LOL. Okay, but we can already get K's and L's and M's - AT and AMW and Cesaroni have that covered - but none of those good old BP motors.

A simple waiver of all rights prior to submitting design (sign your design away). I wouldn't want money involved. This is about the joy of having the design accepted and turned into a kit. Simple love of the hobby no money involved. I would participate in a second. Just look at the contest responses on EMRR to see what I mean.

That is what sells. Kids, and even adults, now want instant gratification - no time or patience to build.

And having the stuff come real cheap from China makes things worse. Why spend real money on a kit you have to build when it comes RTF real cheap Made in China?
