I have been getting back into rockets low power and mid power with my 5 year old Daughter. And I have joined the Tripoli HPR club here in Minnesota.
I flew a Estes PS2 Argent kit assembled with 5min epoxy and wood glue, added Kevlar shock cord out of body tube and 36" nylon chute and JL chute release (300') on a AT H115 DM 29mm single use motor, delay drilled to 10seconds. Apogee 2864', 45'/s decent No drogue, then 15'/s under the main chute from 300' to a soft landing.
I have a few projects underway and continue to expand the low power fleet with the little one.
I am working on my L2 bird a Madcow super DX3 built to handle a J motor and sub sonic flights. I am looking at a Loki 38mm J320R motor or Aerotech J270 SU, Full double redundant Dual deploy with a RRC3 and RRC2+, triple apogee events and dual main events. I am using 2 nylon sheer pins to hold the nose cone in (2-56 nylon). I have Topflight chutes for it, a 18" x type for drogue and a 70" main chute, custom recovery harness 3/8" tubular Kevlar (out of body tubes and off drogue section of Ebay.) All hand sewn together with a sewing awl. welded eye bolts and SS quick links, 220lb SS full ball bearing fishing swivels for the chutes. 12" Nomex chute protectors. It is a lead sled, burnout weight with the Loki J320 is 101oz. I did build a lightweight Ebay coupler with only 1 altimeter and dual main and dual apogee events that is 8oz lighter and I have Kevlar tape I can make a lighter recovery harness (4oz weight savings).
I also bought a Madcow 2.2" Tomach MMD. I am in the early planning stages and may build it to fly on the Loki 54mm L1040, but that would be a 6.5lb motor in a 3.5lb rocket, sims in the 25-30k range and mach 2.5+. our local club has a 20k celling so it may only see a Loki K527 motor.
