Well I`m getting a D Region Tomahawk for my third rocket. A D Region Tomahawk runs on D and E engines. A D Region Tomahawk is 38.8 inches.:rolleyes: These are facts about the D Region Tomahawk.

The kits is a nice build and it looks awesome going up :)

That kit is another of Estes` crowning gems !! I bought and built it last fall and was very please and impressed with the fit ,finish and quality of the parts.After painting and adding details (silver rivet/screw around base of nose cone etc) this kit is museum quality and flies great.I`m looking to buy another for static display.

Be sure to follow the advice in these links and go with a plastic welder adhesive as opposed to the standard tube type plastic cement when gluing the fin can together and when gluing the fins to the fin can. First, the plastic cement will likely damage the overall finish making the joints in these areas not as nice as they are out of the box. Second, the plastic cement bond is weak compared to a plastic welder. There is not a lot of surface area available on those joints so you want the best possible bond you can get. I seen lots of reports of popping off fins on recovery. With four fins that are slightly swept back the chances of landing on a fin are pretty high. Do it right the first time and you won't have to mess with the fins again.
 
Sorry, the D-Region Tomahawk is not in stock.:( It will be back in stock by the middle of this month.:2: I'll be getting it by the end of this month.:)

FWIW, I have not been able to find this particular plastic welder, which I need for repairs to my D Region. Is there a substitute that actually works??

Any halfway decent hobby shop should have this type of stuff. The brand I use is Ambroid ProWeld but there are many others. It just a methylene chloride based plastic solvent.
 
My favorite was Tenax 7 ,but it`s getting hard to find ( I suspect hippies and global warming have something to do with it... lol) but as mentioned ,Ambroid is a fine product.If you can find a "Touch n Flow" applicator you will find it very easy to apply the adhesive exactly where you want it through capillary action

Somewhere in the techniques or the beginners sections is a thread on adhesives that mentions several other brands. It's months old and I don't recall the exact title but I'm sure something will come up if you do a bit of looking.

Also, the Ambroid product comes with a little brush attached to the lid of the bottle. Works well as an applicator. Although just about any fine tipped object, provided it's not a type of plastic that will dissolve in the product, should work well. You really only need a very small amount to create a bond with this type of stuff. It's the consistency of water and a few drops is more than enough for a joint like the D-Region Tomahawk fin to fin can.
 
Just saw this on Ebay a Buy it Now of $20!


Wow, that's a nice price. I think the original price last year when I got mine was $39.99. I bought it with a 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby so that would have been about $24.
 
Yesterday, I read the directions to my D-Region Tomahawk. Took me about five minutes to read the directions on my D-Region Tomahawk.:rolleyes: 13 steps,:confused: Mama mia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:jaw::puke:
 
House record for the tallest of my rockets!:fly: 0.3 inches taller than my Executioner.:handshake:
 
I bought mine at a clearance price of $21.00 at my local Hobby Lobby and I was impressed with the quality and design of its construction. I roughed up all plastic pieces with sandpaper first before cementing with 5 minute epoxy.
I chose a slightly different paint scheme for mine.

Not quite finished yet. The body and fins have been sprayed a couple coats of Krylon gloss white. Nose cone is painted gloss red. I am going to lightly sand down the body and fins with a sanding sponge just to knock out the shine and paint one fin black and apply a black stripe up at the base of the nose cone then shoot a few coats of clear....
First pic on left is after I painted the body white. middle pic is freshly painted nose and pic on right is before I shot it down with primer. :cheers:

Rocketeer41, that rocket is looking awesome! I saw it on the boiler drying when I got home. Looks like you are just about up to the filler/primer/sand/repeat-until-you-are-sick-of-it stage of the build. Keep up the good work.
 
By the way, This D-Region Tomahawk has been assembled with Duco Cement on all of the plastic parts. There is evidence that the Duco melts the plastic quite nicely.

Too bad we can't fly our rockets at JFK anymore (replaced by Bear's field):(. At least we can fly them at the high school.:D
