I have talked about it on my other thread, but i never thought it would happen to me, i put the 13mm adapter in my Blue streak and put a A10T in it, It was A typical launch, but i didn't bring my camera to the launch site (aka my back yard) 5...4...3...2...1... Launch the takeoff was normal until about 10 inches off the pad, then a small flame shot out of the side, it continued off the pad and cartwheeled across the sky (maybe 20 feet of the ground, Tops) then it landed only 10 yards from where i was standing.... then as i approached the rocket the ejection charge fired (this shows how close i initially was to the rocket) The rocket was burning as i got there( the petroleum based idnt really help either, but the paint burned itself out) No one was hurt (well i was launching by myself....:D) Then i started wishing the blue streak wasn't minimum diameter..... The airframe was charred badly so i scrapped it, Into the "circular file":D

If you wanna see my rockets just give me a day or so to find silver paint for my CfX- Six Footer (i wanna get my LPR models for one grand shot)

Well, there you go - you are now more experienced than me in that area. Congratulations!

I've had more motors come apart on me than I care to admit:p Worse was the I195 BJ that was shipped with an undrilled nozzle. This was out of the very first batch of I195's.

Nothing recently as I really haven't been flying that much. I'm disabled and my feet are killing me so I don't do much walking anymore. However, be that as it may, I plan on many opportunities for many cato's this year:)

Are you going to be out at the launch April 3rd dave? My dad won't be out there, but I'm going to fly a couple G64's.

Mark, he is more experienced than me in this case as well.

Tenativly, yes. I have the motors to cert 1 and 2 left over from before the "bad times". They have been stashed in a WWII 105mm fuse container/ammo box from the time I bought them and kept in the house(!) at the foot of my bed, 'bout time to get them out and burn them :)

OR.... as I say fly 'em high or blow 'em up spectacular. A J-90 long burn I flew a while back gone awry .........

sounds good, I won't be out too long, so fly early. :p

I'll have to leave around 12:30.

so if I have my camera i'll have time to fly my arcas, recover it, put the camera on the mustang, fly it, recover it, then leave.

Is there a report of which motors failed the most and such?

That's a perennial question. I'm not sure what else NAR S&T actually does with the reports besides forwarding them to the manufacturers. They must keep statistics, but I don't think that a summary has ever been published, has it? I suspect that most of the time, catos seem to be random events, though. If one particular motor really had issues, you would probably hear about it, because all of a sudden it would seem like everyone was recounting an incident with it, and there would be a lot of chatter about it. In light of how many motors we collectively use in this hobby, I doubt that defective ones would remain secret for very long.

I wasn't around but Mark, can you recall the estes E15? It suvived almost a good part of a year before finally decertifyed......

Woops it was decertifyed on 7/1/98 hey! That's a little more thaN 2 months after I was born :D

Nope, that was during the 33 year period when my interest in rocketry was secured in an undisclosed location. I have never seen an Estes E15, wouldn't know one if I saw it and I don't even know when they were produced.
