concrete form tubes

Hi all,

Anyone know where I can get 6 inch diameter concrete form tubing? I have tried lowes and home depot but the smallest they carry is 8in. I know they make 6in tubes but have not been able to find anyone who sells them.

I bought nominal 6" concrete form tubes form White Cap Supply the manufacturer is SONOCO PRODUCTS COMPANY P/N 128CF6SRG I paid $2/foot for it. The nearest White Cap to you is Baltimore, I don't know if they ship, may be best to call SONOCO and see if they have it locally.

As a side note, I use it as a mandrel for forming composites, the 6 inch has a better wind on the O.D. works well for tooling.

Yes SONOCO is located not to far from the city of Westfield if your in Springfield its a bot more then 20 minutes away but not all that far.

Use Google to search for "concrete supply <yourtown> <yourstate>". Most small, local concrete suppliers will have it. It could be branded with a local name or otherwise. Most Sonotube comes in 2 or 3 diameters of "nominal" size tubes so that it can be nested and shipped more cost effectively. Get the diameter you want. Steer clear of the QuikRete brand as it is impregrated with wax in the cardboard and is less likely to hold epoxy. Most other brands have a wax inner layer that can be peeled out and there aren't the same issues with bonding problems.

Give that a try.

Around here, there's a brand from Carroll Distributing that we use. Same stuff, different brand.

BTW, when buying it, get a price for by the foot and by the tube -- you'll pay a cut fee for shorter lengths, and often it's cheaper to buy the entire 12' tube and have extra than it is to buy a shorter length.

I've seen it from as small as 4" all the way up to 48".

If you're only using it as a form (wrap with fiberglass or carbon fiber, cure, then slip off of the form and only use the shell), don't forget that there are PVC pipes in these same sizes. They are a lot smoother on the outside and they have much better shape consistency/quality.

Before I saw your post, I'd called my local White Cap asking for 6" Sonotube and they said they didn't have any and couldn't order any. Judging from the above White Cap link, it appears that the guy I talked to, perhaps, didn't know what he was talking about.

The 6" part you specified is from the Sonoco "Rainguard" line, commercial forms meant to be waterproof. I cant find their "Builders' Tube" line meant for home projects for sale anywhere. It also has a 6" size available, unlike most of the Sonoco Sontube concrete forms product lines where the smallest size made is 8". The "Builders' Tube" line might be cheaper and lighter than the commercial "Rainguard" stuff, but if you can't find it anywhere... And the Sonotube site doesn't seem to provide a way to find local distributors of their products.

I just bought 12 feet of 6" concrete column form tubing from my local White Cap. It had to be ordered, but it only took a day to arrive. It is P/N 128CF6NWK Newark Newform and it was a bit cheaper than Sonotube Rainguard at $1.50/ft vs $2.00/ft. Since it was delivered to the store on a regularly scheduled shipment, there were no additional fees.
