A local hobby shop is closing up and they have several (maybe 10) "G" and "F" single use Aerotech motors. Right now they're 30% off of about $28. I'm pretty sure they're AT LEAST 3 years old; a LOC Stovi on the shelf is at least 5-6 years old. I'm thinking about offering $50 for all of them. Is it worth it?

Motors have never lasted that long around me.

Sure. Why not?

Last October, I flew some G35s from 2001. One chuffed twice before roaring into the sky and the others lit off right away.

The Stovi will be a cool kit.

There's just something about the look of the Stovi that for $60+ I wasn't willing to buy. Maybe I'll offer $75 for all the motors and the rocket. The Stovi can be a 7 motor cluster; good way to test 7 of those motors at a time.:D

Geez, I hope so. I have several that are older than that.

So he has about $280 worth of motors that he has marked down to about $190 with the 30% off and you are going to offer him $50? Best of luck with that. You might want to wait until the day before he closes with an offer like that.

I didn't know that they came with expiration dates. Do they eventually go senile? Outgrow the motor mounts? Become arthritic? Use too many health care benefits? Become a burden to their families? What?

Right, but I was being nice when I said the motors are 2-3 years old. I suspect they are anywhere between 4 and 8 years old. $190 worth of motor and only 50% fire correctly then $85 goes up in smoke... Is my fear of the age of the motors unfounded? It's humid in Houston, TX and the hobby shop has been through a few major remodels (building exterior included); I don't know what kind of exposure to the humid air they may have had. The packages are stapled and not "sealed."

I flew an AeroTech E28-8 single-use motor, made in 1988, two years ago and it worked fine.

Yes, but that motor was stored partially in spoiled butt San Diego weather... Wanna try some of the motors I got while at Enertek? The ones with the yellow and black pieces of paper wrapped around the motor and the red epoxy holding the nozzle in?

Alright, I trust the motors a little more now; but I'm still going to try and low ball him.

Thanks for all the input.

You're just jealous of the weather here in San Diego. Admit it. ;) :D

I almost used up the last can I have of original Krylon gloss white to paint my Quest High-Q kit today.

The E28 motor I flew was an 'old school' motor with the yellow/black band and red epoxy.

I bought my LOC-IV from them (this is the store down by nasa road 1 right?). they are definitely open to negotiation on buying more than one item. I only wish I was still in houston so i could buy the last couple kits they had.

It's the next two exits up at El Dorado and I-45. They have a few Estes kits, one LOC kit and a bunch of Estes and Aeortech single use motors left. Looks like it'll be mail order for MPR/HPR from here on out for me.
