I know that this was discused before RTF went down, but has anyone flown the Aerobee Hi with a booster motor other than the G80? Now that AT is killing the G80-4 I need to find an alternate motor. It looks like the G79W-S should be a good motor, but I'm looking for people that have used it.

Thanks in advance,
mike

Send me a kit to build and I will fly it on all types of motors ;)

I still see G79-4W and G77-4R engines for sale on Hobbylinc.

Both are rated to lift a rocket of up to 52oz, and are cheaper than the G80.

Other good choices are the G71 and G76 for the RMS 29/40-120 Hobbyline motor. Both have a 4 second delay option, and they provide a lot of power! Also, the Road Runner G80-4 would be a good choice too.

Yeah I think pretty much any G motor from a G64 up with a 4 second delay will work.I hope so I just picked up an Aerobee Hi from uncle Mikes and was gonna use a G64 in the booster of maybe one of the mojave green motors.

Mike have you tried to put a 38mm in the booster. I would think the 38-120 would give you more room for the parachute. then you could put a G-339 in it.

Unc has'em?!?!?

Aw heck! Out of stock!

Get I'll have survive by adding a booster to my Quest -Hi until they
come back. Hurry please, Mike! This has been on my 'gotta have'
list for some time...

I'm working on it as fast as I can. I hope to have everyone stocked up on the Nike Smokes and Apaches by the end of March. The BBII's and Aerobee Hi's will follow ASAP.

Sorry about all the delays in getting kits out. It's been a tough time because of the economy, some unforseen problems and, I’ll be honest, it’s a lot of work for one person. I am doing things behind the scenes to improve things, it’s just going to take some time.

He also had some listed on ebay and a couple other auction sites for a buy it now of 90 bucks.I think I might have gotten one of the last he had in stock.Waiting on a few parts before I start to build it I ordered those from BMS today.

This should be a good answer for that booster is a G64.

I believe its one of the pictures on your website too.

Hey cool.....That's my Aerobee Hi launching on a G64! :D

The G64W is a nice motor for the booster, and mine version is slightly "piggy" in weight, so the average flier would have no issue using one.
I have also launched it on a G80T-4 to a H220T with success.

It hits altitudes of around 2,700ft - 3,000ft.

Hey Mike, I got your email regarding the stocks....I will be placing an order for some Smokes & Apaches very soon!

From what I read on your build thread on the aussie rocket forum that was the second aerobee you built wasn't it the first one failed to stage if I remember that was too bad.I was hoping in your build thread you were gonna show some pics of how you built in the e-bay to see how you did it.Since then I have a plan for how I am gonna do mine, I am gonna extend and divert the motormount tube to one side add a couple centering rings to it and build the e-bay over that secion of MM so I can fit in a 9V battery. That was a nice flight by the way that thing really scooted when that H kicked in.
