You can't go wrong with a Ruger 10/22. In production over 50 years and plenty of accessories to trick it out any way you like. Just try finding .22RF ammo...

I was looking at getting a carbine in .45 Long Colt. A used Rossi Circuit Judge or a new Rossi M92 Puma lever-action. While the Circuit Judge will process .45LC, plus .410 slug and shot shells--it holds only 5 rounds and all 5 must be reloaded by swinging the cylinder out of battery. The M92 handles .45LC ammo only, which includes shotshells. The advantage over the Circuit Judge is the tubular magazine can be topped off through the loading gate with the action closed and a round in the chamber. Plus the M92 may be effectively operated by right- and left-handed persons.

The price of the lever gun stalls me though. After two years, that gun is still on the rack.

Regarding some of the posts in this thread with regards to air rifles... I have found that the next best thing to flying rockets, is getting involved with an air rifle club that is into shooting a competition called Field Target (FT). The shooter have some of the sexiest rigs, and yes expensive rigs, that the world has ever seen. Here is a link to some air gunners overseas, and some of their **bling**

Our friends across the "big pond" truely love the FT sport. But here in the US, we are slowly taking on the craze. Note here, that shooters most everywhere in the world can only shoot to World Field Target Federation (WFTF) standards which only allow rifles to shoot sub 12 foot lbs... very challenging. Here in the US, we try to stay under 20 ft lbs!!!!! Anyways, the World Championship that was held in New Zealand just ended, and I thought I would post some pics of the kinds of air rifles that are used at these types of events. I'm a bit burned out with rockets at the moment. Seems to happen every year after Hellfire. I've been looking at getting into reloading and shooting seeing as how I have 2 ranges less than 2 miles from my house!

Is there still a shortage of rimfire ammo? It wasn't too long ago I saw ppl selling CCI Mini-Mags for ridiculous prices. So ridiculous I was tempted to sell some of mine.

Couple of decades ago, a popular department store decided to get out of the ammo business, and had a blowin'-em'-out-the-door sale on 22 rimfire rounds. I was in the right place at the right time. Made a serious score.

I'll never pay $17 a brick as long as I live. Damn sure not gonna pay more...

Walmart said .22LR is starting to appear again. They have had seven shipments in the last 30 days: Boxes of 50, 100, and 1000 rounds.

I was at Sportman's Warehouse today and checked out their stock of air rifles. Couldn't find anything with an energy rating lower than 15 ft-lbs.

$285 sounds reasonable for casual backyard stuff. Pricewise that sounds like an RWS or Diana 34. What kind of rifle set-up are you using?

Kinda like the idea of a shorter barrel in spite of the increased cocking effort.

I used to own the 34 with the black plastic stock, but this model, the Meisterschutze, has a decent hardwood stock, and helps offset the weight of the large cocking handle on the rifle.

I have just got in on this post but can some tell me why I can't find or buy 22 long rifle bullets? My wife does a lot of shopping she looks all the time for me. I have gotten 1 box of 100 so far this year. Are people hoarding them so much that they can't be made fast enough? And even if people are stoking up why can't the manufactors put out more? Or is SSI still buying them to keep them from us Americans?

Don't look in department stores anymore. When the shortage hit they took it off the normal reorder list and they haven't made it back. You can find them at outdoor sporting stores. I go to Intermountian Arms, a large outfitter here and believe me they have no shortage.

There's been a 22 shortage for years. It's just now starting to let up and we're seeing some places getting it in. Ammo makers have said they're still running at full production, and it's not worth increasing production ability for a short spike in demand.

Cause: idiots hoarding and price gouging the resale market. Solution: stop buying it from people for twice to five times retail.

I've been lucky, I keep a good supply around to ride out stupidity like this.

I managed to do a bit of Guns & Rocketry today.

First I attended the general meeting of the local rocketry club and followed up with a visit to the nearby Sportsman's Warehouse which was having a "Waterfowl Weekend" with many vendors hawking their waterfowl hunting gear. We are located in a great duck hunting area but I'm sorry to say I'm not a hunter of any sort. Dad used to hunt a lot and I always accompanied him but I've always been more of a target shooter.

Tomorrow I'm headed out to the big twice-a-year gun show at the fairgrounds and am hoping to score some .22LR and miscellaneous items.
