Tying Parachute Lines

I have always used the Blood Knot (now called the fisherman's knot to be PC). But my old hands just can't seem to do it right any more.

Any of you have better knots to use? And how to tie those knots.

For LPR stuff tape of some sort should be fine. Just have to find one you like. Are you tying to the chute itself or to a swivel ? About the biggest I have ever flown are E class motors and had mostly good luck with tape. Otherwise for knots I would do an online search for fishing knots. I believe the North American fishing Club (NAFC) has an extensive list with video instruction on how to tie them. I would also try with some of the fishing line companies Berkley, Stren, Ande etc. Also look for a book called the Red Book of fishing knots. It's usually about $5 or so.

I use the bowline for all of my parachutes. It doesn't slip, so the shroud line won't sinch down on the hole or come undone under normal loads. Also, it's strength efficiency is about 75%. The only knot I know of that is better is the Butterfly, which is about 80%, but the Butterfly isn't suited for a two-directional load.

BTW, the Butterfly does work well for mid shock line parachute attachment, since that is a three-way load, the situation the Butterfly is designed for.

For competition chutes, I also put a piece of tape over the hole in the chute, for strength and to keep the line from pulling out. It isn't really necessary though.

When would you use something like a blood knot in parachute construction? For tying the ends of the shroud lines to the canopy: two half hitches.

Bowline for me too, wouldn't even think of using anything else. Not a fan of the old estes style tape method, too much risk of failure especially given time.

I'm with mark were would you need to tie a blood knot on a parachute or parasheet?
for what purpose? Please explain.

I use a Sergens knot for attaching the lines to the chute material. but most of the time im using plastic and just use duct tape
