I finally got my launch pad finished. I'm very happy with how it turned out. Does anybody know if you have to use a special primer to paint galvanized steel?

Look good but it's galvanised, you don't need to paint it.

If you must paint it, zinc chromate primer should work.

I know I don't need to paint it, but I want to. It's ugly like it is. LOL

Hi Jim;
Tremclad makes a primer for galvanized steel. HD or Lowes will have it. I picked some up at WallyMart a couple of weeks back, I think it was under $5.

Were you planning on using high temp paint to finish??

I don't think I need high temp paint for the sawhorse. I wasn't planning on painting the blast deflectors.

You probably know already but FYI you don't want to breathe the smoke from burnt galvanized metal. It's a yellow smoke that is fairly toxic. Have you ever heard of the zinc chills? Ted

Look for "self ETCHING PRIMER" to paint over galvanized-- standard paint/ primer won't stick (for long) on galvanized. Good luck! OL JR :)
