Hello, new member here

Hello everyone,

As you can guess from my title, I am new to this site. I am looking forward to pick your brains and learn from you. Just a quick history of mine rocketry modeling. I have recently built two rockets from a kit, and flew them on A8-3 engines,lol, at temperatuers -12 C. First one barely lifted, the second one when up pretty high. No parachutes deployed,lol. The snow saved my models. At second attempt I forgot the wadding, so the shute melted. Anyway, I started making models when I was a kid , but never finished one. Now, I am making one from a scratch. Simple - you multiple by 9 then divide by 5 and add 32 and that makes the answer ---- COLD:snowflake::snowflake:

OK, I'm a U.S. citizen and I understand the metric system so let me translate for you.

-40 C = -40 F Huh...whaddaya know about that

-30 C = -24F you're crazy! I'm not going outside

-20 C = 6 below zero...it's freakin' cold

-10 C = 14 F OK, the snow is making that awfull crunchy sound

0 C = freezing.

10 C is a normal winter day in North Carolina or a very nice day in early spring up north. (50 degrees F)

20 C is room temperature (68 degrees F)

30 C either turn on the AC or let's go to the beach. A nice summer day (86 F)

40 C is a normal summer day in Pheonix, AZ (104 degrees F)

Not perfect but close enough to understand it.

Please remember that TRF is for use not only by those in the US, but also those outside of the US. We have a number of international members, and that's a good thing.

Referring to centigrade/celsius as a "foreign" language is inappropriate.

Besides, is it really that difficult to go to Google and enter "-12 celsius fahrenheit" and learn that it's 10.4 F?

Anyway, don't feel bad about the wadding. I'm sure we all have stories to tell.

There was the time I was so excited I had finished a new rocket that I ran out to the car and off I went. After setting up my launch pad, I went to slide my rocket onto the launch rod...................................

Ooops! I forgot to glue on a launch lug. From that day on I keep a couple of launch lugs and a tube of superglue in my range box.

to relieve stress and or high blood pressure.
Knowing that this forum is based in the U.S.A. it doesn't
always occur to me others posting are out side The U.S.
Many people do not divulge their location so myself and others
have no way of knowing where anyone is.

to hear them say " thats foreign to me ". Doesn't matter whether
its a language or an expression or how to do a task.
If I go to another country I am a foreigner. If someone comes to

I do belive there were plenty of opportunities to say to say hey folks I was kidding. Never happenned yet but you never know. The use of a smilie or lol would be a good way to indicate humour. Never saw either in the post .
Its obvious from a lot of peoples sigs and comments they come from all over the world. I find it a source of interest myself as a diversity of thought is interesting. What differance does it make where someone is from in terms of being inclusive and welcoming to a new member?
Given the blunt way it was put forward there was nothing ludicrous about what was said at all about the post at all. The word foreigner is no more insulting then any other but its all about context and i dont agree it was not used that way. Perhaps it wasnt but madsen is an adult and can pm us or post for himself.
It is not political correctness when someone announces they are a new member to be polite. Thats simply manners. I would suggest you rexamine the posts and feel free to PM me about it.

Back on topic...

Nitro... Welcome to TRF and to rocketry. Every launch is a lesson learned so keep flying them even if it below freezing... my blood is to thin to be out at those temperatures. Post some pictures of your rockets and flights if you have them. Welcome aboard!!!

Thank you for the welcome, I perhaps should have ingnored that comment. Nevertheless, non offence taken. I started a thread about building my new rocket, and will update it shortly
