Newb to the Forum.....

Well...just thought I would introduce myself. My name is John and I have just got my boy into model rocketry. I, myself, was into the hobby about thirty years ago. I got him a vintage Astrocam 110, an Alpha III, a Liquidator and a Big Daddy for starters......If he takes to the hobby, I will get him some of the more difficult models and an Astrovision as well. We will likely be sticking with low to medium powered rockets as I am not used to running more than an E engine. But who knows......this is something I enjoy also. I might get brave.

So that's about it. I am basically a 46 year old nerd. I will be asking questions from time to time in an effort to gain a better understanding of what I am getting into.

One thing that I would suggest is try finding a local club. Most rocketeers that I have been in contact with are friendly, knowledgeable, and (the best part) helpful.

Have fun and enjoy the time building the relationship with your son ... and rockets.

Welcome to the forum John. From your handle I'd guess you've got some land to launch on or you have access to motor making substances...either way I'm sure your boy will love the hobby, my children sure do.

I see that you are located in NW Washington - If you haven't already checked out NW Rocketry at https://rocketsnw.com/ and Oregon Rocketry at https://www.oregonrocketry.com/ you should. They have a calendar of launches around the region, if you can get to one next spring/summer I would highly recommend it. One warning: Once you see a high-power rocket fly, you WILL want to build one!

Really??!!! I got online last night and saw that the closest club was Federal Way. A little too far to drive.......I will check this out! Thanks. 80 acres is perfect. Actually, we used to shoot off our rockets when I lived in Bellevue at a place named 80 acres.

My father helped me some 20 years ago build and launch my first rockets (the one I remember best was the Falcon Commander) and now I'm enjoying teaching my daughter the hobby. She's only five, but is well along the way to building her first rockets under my watchful eye.

Actually, we used to shoot off our rockets when I lived in Bellevue at a place named 80 acres.

Well, it is actually called 60 Acres Park, but close enough. Good to have another modeler in the area. If the weather holds this week my son and I are planning on heading over to 60 Acres to launch some of the rockets that need a larger field.

Maybe we all need to try to converge on Sequim when the weather gets better.

sorry, i am not in the Royal Navy and the Union Flag is only called a Jack when flown from a ship.

but

a John is another name for a toilet ( in the states at least), and i have been know to use that now and again.

That was my other escape when I couldn't come up with any better way to associate the name John with someone.

You never know (of course it was 60 Acres 40 years ago when I was growing up in Bellevue, but whatever...

Sequim is the Discovery Bay launch. We had hoped to get over there last spring, but with my son's school and other commitments we kept missing the dates. Still want to go over there as it seems like it would be a fun day trip.
