Retro Space Christmas Tree Ornaments

We were at the Illinois State Museum today and the giftshop had a Christmas tree that was decorated in a retro space theme. It was very fun--spaceships, robots, atoms, planets, etc.

I went hunting around online just in case anyone is interested (Layne--these would be really, really groovy if you have a tree...).

I brought home one of those red and green atom models. You can just imagine all the comments about how uncool I am coming from my preteen.

My wife and I started to randomly get the Smithsonian Museum Catalog when we moved and they had similar ornaments, a bit more pricey I think. Cool find some of those would go well with my NASA ornaments.

To bad we may only put up the 3 foot tree, due to my 17 month old. we're afraid he'll try to climb the bigger tree.

Yeah I like that too... I need to get one for my daughter's room. She's almost five and still gets the willies in the middle of the night and ends up in our bed.

She's got a miniature lava lamp night-light and it's kinda cool because the glitter in it throws weird patterns on the walls as the light reflects off it-- the goo is almost clear or a light pinkish-purple color though... This one is green and I don't know if she'd like that...

Wonder if they have it any othe colors??

I asked her if I got her a 'magic lamp' (a full size glitter-style lava lamp) that would sit on her dresser and give a little more light to the room if that would help her sleep, and she thought it would... OL JR

A few years ago, when Quest Aerospace was stuck with a boatload of the original RTF Micromaxx rockets (a k a LPB's) that they couldn't move, had them listed on their website in special packaging for sale as Christmas tree ornaments. Absolutely true story. They looked cool, too. I didn't buy any then, but every year I am tempted to get a bunch to put on my tree. Maybe this year.

Those ornaments are very cool Pippen. Here's another one
that I found at Michael's recently. It had some candy in it and
they were up front near the cash register. It is intended to be used as a
Christmas tree ornament, but when I saw it I thought "cone rocket".
I'm going to try flying one at our December launch.

haha! that's awesome! i had one of the smaller ones (with the lava blobs) that stood about 13in when i was younger! i don't know how effective it will help with sleeping cuz i know i was distracted staring at it...

Oh man, you are right, those are rockin'!
We don't do a traditional tree but I like to decorate the potted palm and rubber trees in the house. Thanks for the link and idea!
