The AT E15-4 is recommended by the manufacturer for Lil Nuke.
Rocksim shows 5.6 secs for optimal delay. Anyone have experience
with Lil' Nuke on E15 or can help explain why a 4 sec delay would be
alright for this kit? All the other recommended motors sim fine.
It is totally stock built.

Im assuming when you say optimal delay you mean at apogee correct? if that is so then 4 seconds would give you a deployment while the rocket is still traveling upwards which isnt bad unless it is still traveling fast at that point.

I'd use, E15-4, E30-4, RMS E18-4, E28-4, F40-7, G53-7, rest of G's 7 if windy, 10 if calm. 29/180-M, 29/240-M, 29/360-L, H125-14.

This assumes construction reasonably near stock. A stock Lil' Nike will handle any of the above motors using 5 minute epoxy and no fiberglassing. Mine even survived an old USR H640-15.
 
thx for suggestions. will give the 'ol E15-4 a spin and maybe
change out 14" chute for 18" if its not too windy.

Stay away from those estes things....they just don't have the umph to get it off the rod with enough speed to get it to fly straight. The E30 would be a good motor for it, but a G would be a cool shot. I keep track of my Mid and high power rockets on a excel workbook - one sheet per rocket, i enter when i flew it, where, what motor, where deployment happened (early - apogee - late) and then modify my time delays as appropriate.

Did you weigh your rocket and input that weight in the mass over-ride tab before running sims in RS? Accurate rocket data is critical for getting optimal information along with correctly setting the simulation environment such as wind speed, altitude, etc.

When in doubt go with what the manufacturer recommends especially when it's built stock.

The finished rocket weighed 13oz. Exactly the same as the weight in the
kit literature and Rocksim. D12-3 is also a recommended motor for this kit,
although I don't see how stable velocity can be reached with even a long
launchrod.This is the reason I started questioning the other recommended motors. Thanks for responses, hope to be flying this weekend.
 
The delay on the AT E15-4 was much longer than 4 sec.
Still, Lil Nuke was well short of apogee for deploy. Credit thick
LOC cardboard and elastic shockcord for no zipper. see vid.

I have flown mine on both D12s and E9s without any issues. It has folwn more on Estes motors than anything else with no ill efects.

Maybe the weight/Cd they are using differs from RocSim's.
 
I flew mine last weekend on an E9, and it came in ballistic, and almost hit a tent.
 
I would follow the mfgs recommended motors listing.

I don't believe in rocket altitude prediction software. ;)
 
This was my lowest altitude and shortest duration flight ever, but I got
to check another motor off the list for my Lil Nuke. G40 and G64 are the only mfr recommended motors left. I'm a little concerned with shred on G64 as my
fillets are small.

Really struggled off the rod but flew straight to 150' on the D12-3. 'chute was late. D12-0 might be better choice.

The off leash dog heard shortly after launch was all bark and no bite. We shared a Dasani from my range box following landing. I think mid F's represent the sweet spot for the Lil Nuke if you like watching the entire flight and getting your rocket back. Swapped 12" round for 18" Topflight.

You should be fine with the G64 especially it's holding up good after a few flights with F motors and the like. The G64 won't push it past mach or even transonic AFAIK so you should be good. But it will be a looooong way up there so bring binoculars. An I200 on the other hand would be rather mach-ish.
