I love the looks of Der Red Max.
I had a spare kit.
I Love Orange.
I had a spare tube that was 2.5 inches taller than stock.

SO!

Here his my latest .

I left the RED in the decals because just love the black contrast and wanted to keep the look.

As the title suggests, this is my first Max. It's a great flyer! I built in a half moon baffle about 1/4" away from the MMT. It's a tight squeeze but after two flights the streamer is only slightly toasted at the edge in a couple spots. Finished with Model Master acryl and Future.

I thought you loved pink?

Here are a pair of Max in a two stage. Red Max is right out of the Sport Rocketry Magazine and yellow Mini Max with same build techniques.

Little to no wind is preferred unless you like to walk.

A BT-80 version is in the works.

Very early work on a 5.5" Der Red Max...original Estes perched for reference

I just completed both the Mini and Der Red Max, now just waiting for Santa to bring me Mega and I'll have the Family together.
Paint used, Rustoleum Painters Touch 2X Primer, 2X Apple Red,2X Gloss Black, After Decals Painters Touch Gloss Clear.
I decided to use the 18mm motor retainer from Rocketerium instead of the supplied motor clip.

Actually in the instructions of the original kits, Orange was the RECOMMENDED paint scheme. The other was Camouflage. The original plans can be found here...

The Orange makes for a great looking DRM.

Well done!

I like how this turned out. I especially like the "kill marks" that includes "The Great World War One Flying Ace". :D Decals are From Excelsior Rocketry and they are very nicely printed. If you have not used these decals, I would give a word of caution, the carrier film is very thin and does not tolerate a lot of tugging and pulling. Get the decal near or exactly where you want them so to limit the need to reposition. They are delicate and care should be taken.
However, because they are thin, they suck-down onto the surface really well and the film becomes invisible. I love 'em!

I just finished the Mega Der Red Max so thought I'd add it along with my Mini and Red.
I used Epoxy throughout the build, maybe overkill but the fins are perfectly straight.
A few changes I did to Mega from the original kit was adding an eye bolt, nut and washer to the top centering ring and used Kevlar for the shock cord. The balsa/plywood fins are fiberglassed with 1.5 oz fiberglass cloth for added strength. I installed rail buttons instead of the launch lugs, no whip with a rail since this is a big mid power rocket. With the recovery system and Nomex blanket mine weighs in at 34oz without motor.

I flew the Odd'l Rockets Red Max themed 'Der Huge Red Squatty Body' on a 1/2A6-2 with a streamer. The flight was fine for the grass, but a small parachute (which is what it is supplied with) is optimal. Packing a streamer is easier, but really it needs a small chute. Do what I say, not what I do. With the weight in the nose cone it basically drags the streamer and body behind it. :)

This is my Max family as it currently stands.

I have plans for a couple of Sticker Shock birds, a few more Mini Max's in other colors, a BT-70 or BT-80 version and maybe a 1:1 cluster.

I was amazed to see just how many Der Red Max fans there were. This was spose to be a secret but since the cat is already out of the bag, here's the one I built.

Just finished this one the other day. I have yet to fly it, but it's on the list for my next trip to B6-4 Field. 18mm powered and goes by the name Hemi Max. (Because of the Testors Hemi Orange paint, but the added power had a hand in the name as well.)

I found another Mini Max today while passing through the shop while I was grilling on the side porch. Thinking gold for this one.
