I'm really hating my car today!

Up until this evening I had a nice 2012 Grand Caravan. I had a gallon can of oil based deck stain tip over in the back of my van and spill everywhere this evening. The paint ruined the carpet, interior trim, door seal, and possibly one of the seats that is folded under the floor. The stain poured out the side door into the area for the door track. There is stain everywhere in the door track area. I couldn't get it cleaned out and will take it to the body shop in the morning. It was too late to get the car to a body shop before the shop guys left to see if they could clean it while it was wet.

I just found out that the carpet alone online is $500! I'm certain it will be an insurance claim on my comprehensive.

I had an old Caravan once upon a time. Drove it till it died. Just like the other Dodge I had. I must say, that having lived through many of used vehicles I have owned, there were 2 Dodge's and they were my worst experience. I don't blame you if you never buy another one. But it seems your story is only telling 1/2 of the issue. Was it the vehicle to blame or did you not secure your cargo? You can't blame the van for loose cargo.

There are a lot of great reasons for hating cars, but having a can of deck stain spill in your car is not something you can really blame on the car. Maybe blame it on Karma. Maybe you really hate Karma, not cars. But if it is Karma, it calls into question what kind of shenanigans you have been up to...

I once had a Costco sized bottle of garlic olive oil explode in my car. It was almost impossible to get rid of. No matter what I did, the car smelled like a bad Chinese restaurant for months. It was especially good when parked in the sun for a few hours.

Good luck with your car and your Karma.

OK...in the same vein of TBs thread.....

Coming home from Christmas day at my mothers house...I had a headache all day. I laid my chair back in the car....about half way home I told my wife she better pull over. The window didn't roll down fast enough as I exploded...into the heater vent. You want to talk about a car smelling bad for months?

That's gross!

Awww dude... I feel for ya.

Sorry to hear about that. It's harsh.

On the bright side, at least it's not as bad as THIS.

Yep. His car might still get him around. Mine has been carted off to the scrap yard. Talked to my Lawyer. Asked him if he should be involved. His answer: Absolutely! Then I asked him if he fee will be more than my gains. He laughed and said no. We'll see......... In the words of Barney Stinson, I've lawyered up!

I have pretty good luck with Dodge vehicles. My parents have had three Caravans and only the first one had some issues, but it was a 1986. They got 8 years and 100,000 miles before the 1986 had some engine issues. The 1994 lasted almost 200,000 miles and 14 years while they still have a 2000 that is 13 years old with 130,000 miles still going strong. Dodge vehicles used to be behind the foreign models on creature comforts, but they are a lot better now.

You're right this really isn't an issue with the car itself. I just hate having to spend $1000 on repairs to my car. I thought the can was secure, but obviously not. I bought the can from the local Habitat for Humanity Restore. Obviously the can wasn't sealed tightly as a lid shouldn't come off a can that falls over. I suspect they opened it to determine the color. It was a brand new can of paint so no reason to suspect the lid wasn't on tightly.

Sounds to me like Habitat owes you big time. Seems like the title of this thread should be, "I hate habitat for humanity". Probably would be a bit more animated thread.

Yeah, I understand your frustration. It sucks, especially on a vehicle that's so new.

I just wasted all four tires on my Charger last weekend due to a poorly patched construction adventure. The crew had dug a trench perpendicular to the road to access a pipe, then slacked off when it came to temporarily fill it. Either they didn't use enough gravel or what they used settled. It was in a 55 mph zone, I hit it at about 60. All four tires experienced side wall bubbling, rendering my tires bad at 15k miles...

That really sucks! I feel your pain, several years ago I had a 280Z turbo, I picked up a gallon of anti freeze and had it in the passenger side floorboard along with my Pentax 35mm camera, which back in the 80's the three hundred I paid for it was a lot of money, well some one had removed the cap and foil cover, unknown to me, it tipped over while driving, I didn't think any thing of it, after all it has a good cap and foil cover. Needless to say when I got home there was a gallon of anti freeze in the floor board with the camera sitting in the middle of it..good bye camera, and carpet.

I never heard back from the body shop today. When I dropped off the car they said they couldn't even do an estimate without having one of the shop guys take some things apart. The estimator thought maybe the carpet could be salvaged, but she wasn't sure. Maybe they have a solvent that can remove dried oil paint from the carpet, but I doubt it.

It least it wasn't as bad as this German? accident with 5 gal or more of primer...

What makes you say that is German?

Leo..I just saw the "New Germany sign and guessed...more likely Brazil or England

How about this...

I hate road construction...

In the last 2 weeks I have:
- Hit a complete truck tire carcass cracking the front bumper and denting / scratching passenger door,... not to mention the extensive rubber scuff mark
- a flat front tire
- a flat rear tire

All on the same stretch of I-595 in south Florida

I want a new car,... but the road is such a war zone,... I don't dare until construction is complete.

A tire carcass isn't necessarily anything to do with construction. We've hit at least one tire carcass with my motorhome on rocket trips and it did about $10 worth of damage to the motorhome and left some scuff marks on the trailer. I did hit a bridge railing last year with the motorhome in a very narrow construction zone after dark. Luckily no real damage other than some scratches on the side. It have been far worse.

I like to buy new or late model used cars when I change vehicles. I always look for late model used cars, but they are generally as much or more than new cars. I've had bad luck with non-collision damage to my cars over the last decade. A tree branch fell on my last car causing $3,000 in damage. Now I spilled paint in this car causing who knows how much damage. I also had an issue with a garage door hitting a car about 8 years ago for $800 in damages. I feel like I should just buy an old junker and live with the inevitable repair bills and trips to the shop.

True,... but in this case,... the 100 truck loads of fill / day are the trucks loosing the tires daily..
