Not that I always believe them but Sat. 15 June looks like an island of sunshine, in sea of rain and thunder showers.

That Little Rascal is awesome. It looked great a couple of weeks ago. When does it get an "I" motor, lol?

I would think that the delay time is also a factor, apogee deployment is ideal, but doing a sim and calculating the longest delay for post apogee deploy, with out shredding the recovery system would be in order.

But I would also like to see what size rocket we are talking too, as an H 3G CTI put my MC JayHawk to 35oo+ in Amesbury with the whole 14s left intact, and it was only on the other side of the stream.

With a 2900' deployment, a sink rate of 15 fps and a 10 mph wind the rocket will drift a half a mile so if you launch from the middle of the field you're going to be short of the trees.

Well, we'll see how the 1800' flight goes on Saturday. That is reassuring, though.

Of course, it assumes that the rocket flew straight up, which isn't always true.

I do need to keep in mind that it is single deploy. Have you thought about a G118 Blue Streak or the H152 Blue Streak? Both are awesome motors. If you bring it to Amesbury, I would recommend s G for it to have a chance of landing on the field.

I have been meaning to try a CTI bluestreak. AT's Blue Thunder has really disappointed me thus far.

I have flown both. The Aerotech gives that big punch right off the pad and can bearly see the blue flame on smaller motors. It is awesome for quick flights. The Blue Streaks have a slower liftoff, in my opinion, and you can see the blue flame, even on the smaller motors. I think you will like the Blue Streaks.

I'm building a PML Amraam 3 for my L1 cert. Before I can go much further, what rods are available for hpr at MMMSC? The kit comes with 3/8 inch lugs and I need to know if I need to replace them. Thanks.

I'm not sure what we have for HPR rods in Maine but Scott should be able to let us know. If needed, I can borrow a set from CMASS that would have the Ø3/8" in it.

I'll probably install rail buttons once I find some that will work. The kit uses piston ejection so traditionally mounted rail buttons using tnuts through the tube wall won't work.

I looked at those after you mentioned them. Looks perfect for my needs. Also checked out the rockets they offer, need to convince my wife that I have to get one of the Talons.

Thanks. I'll probably be installing Giant Leap's conformal rail buttons to be more compatible. Unfortunately, I won't have it ready for this Saturday as I'm still waiting for my motor retainer to arrive.

The forecast is for 15mph from the NW. If I have my orientations right, this is not good if the launch set up is where it was the last time (on the edge of the field nearest the entrance road).

We Are A Go For Today!

And a Glorious Day at the Field was had by many. It was a bit windy but flyable for some of my Rockets.
I kept the Mars Landers on the ground. I was going to fly the (still virgin in primer) Interceptor E but didn't have the right engines.
I was a late arrival, but still got a Hotdog and some soda's.
I also got in a couple modroc flights.
I Flew the Orbital Transport and a Fliskits Pheord F-150 on C6-3's, fast easy fun.
The wind made for a hike recovering the Orbital Transport but all worked out fine.

I was also happy to pass on 4 rockets given to me by an old co-worker who dropped them off at work this week.
His mother is moving and they were found in the cleanout.
2 18mm military looking rockets, one complete sans decals and paint, the other missing the nose cone or forward section.
An Estes Maxi Alpha 3 complete and a Maxi V2 needing a recovery system and some zipper repair.
I handed them out to 4 kids that were showing enthusiasm, Lets Keep 'em enjoying the sport.

It was a beautiful day on the field for sure!

I only got 3 off the ground:

The Black Star Voyager on a E12-4 who separated in the middle. I suspect that the ejection charge was pretty strong on this and the holes I drilled in the coupler (per the instructions, mind you) were a little too restrictive. However, the fix is simple! Nothing a little glue and some patience can't resolve.


The FatBoy flew on a 5 motor cluster: 1xD12 4XC6. I got them all lit up and she flew perfectly. The camera's autofocus was, well not focused on the fatboy all that well. Still looks pretty cool.


The Vindicator flew on its first Loki load: H144 White. Fantastic motor! Great flight!

I did some L1-ing for Eggplant Andrew as well as camera duty. I'll let him post his flight pictures if he wants but he had some really nice flights!

The day turned out rather well weather-wise. The wind gusted a bit now and then but was generally okay. I only got a chance to launch my LOC V2 and Estes Nike Smoke. I had a new rocket of my own design but forgot to have the documentation for stability so I didn't try to fly it. Maybe next week. Here are shots of the V2 at launch and almost landing at the pad. And a shot of the Nike Smoke.

I came with eggplant and also invited a few senior friends of mine from our school's FIRST robotics team. Flew an Initiator on a G76, great flight!
Sadly I lost it to that swamp in the middle of the field. Dan graciously helped me look for it, but even after going through it a couple of times the rocket still wasn't found. The rocket wasn't so bad to lose, I guess. I was planning on retiring it anyway. But the casing was a bit of a bummer. Hopefully someone finds it at a later launch!

Now to work on Jr. L1 cert...

I'm still missing a 2 in fiberglass payload and nosecone in the woods between the parking lot and the highway from the June 1st launch, in the off chance it showed up. I didn't make it yesterday, but will plan a SAR at a later launch. Curtis

As usual, a great time was had at the launch! The weather was a lot more bearable than last time, so I got in two flights.
First up, the Little Rascal loved the H250:


OpenRocket estimates that it went about 1800', which seems right to me. It was an easy recovery,
Next up was the repaired Two Ton with added ring fin. It flew on an H128 to probably 1300'-1500'.


Also a very easy recovery, and no fin damage this time!

Lots of cool flights yesterday!

The neat thing was when a woman named Ann showed up to tell us that she found a rocket in her back yard last year! I went and got it. It was complete, good condition w/o the nose cone. Now if only we knew who it belonged to?
