Need a Little Help with a Mean Machine

Mean Machine Help


I printed a set of Mean machine decals in white for a customer and he tells me they don't fit.

Are the fins on the new Estes Mean machine different from the old kit?

This is what I have.

The first pic is my Mean Machine.

The second pic is the Excelsior decals over the original. They fit perfectly.

The last pic is a print out of a CAD file my customer sent me of the size he says the decals should be.

I don't think they scaled correctly.

His must be a little more mean. I have one of the first releases un-built in the bag and a new PN 37100 decal sheet in my decal box. They look the same as yours. Don't know about the new release. The last Mean Machine I built was last seen floating off in the distance in Orangeburg after a flight on a F-21.

"What are the dimensions of the CAD drawing. I'm working on a MM right now so it's reall easy for me to measure out the fins. Those do look big to me as well.

Okay, the width on the opposing fin root is 28mm. The height until it angles back is 18mm and the lenght of the angle on the right side is 57mm. The width of the piece on top is 15mm"

Actually, mine is a "D" version but can't imagine it's any different.

From the look of his CAD drawing I wonder if he is expecting the decal to be the same size as the entire fin?

Fin Dimensions are:
Root 70mm
Leading 80
Tip 40mm
Trailing 60mm

Additional info measured from new edition:

Root = 70mm
Span = 50mm
Tip (on mine) = 41mm
Sweep Length = 61mm

This is what I have so far.

Apparently the original Mean machine decals aren't quite a match to the fins.

I never heard anybody complain about it before.

Here is what my customer gave me compared to the original fin decals.

I have to admit they are 'better" but NOT original!

their nice and crisp but as you said their not the origenals. might be good to have on hand for an option but i like the origenal.

They do look better so I'll keep them in my file.
